January 2023 Game Awards

Around here, the start of a new month brings an important tradition that I'm making up right now: Stealing game award categories from old magazines or Web sites, and then giving those awards to the Itch.io games I reviewed over the last month. I think it's going to be a very hot feature.

This month's plagiarism is brought to you by the 2001 Nintendo Power Awards (minus platform-specific categories like "Best Nintendo GameCube Graphics"), found in volume 156, pages 116-123.

Genre: Puzzle

Pitch: Build snowmen in a winter-y blend of Sokoban and Tower of Hanoi.

My expectations: I've played a little bit of this. I didn't stick with it, but I don't remember disliking anything about it. I suppose I enjoy Sokoban-likes as much as the next person. I expect this will be above average for its genre—a mild kind of head-scratching fun.

#JakeReviewsItch by Genre

Every review from #JakeReviewsItch, sorted by genre and arranged alphabetically. Genres provided by developers/publishers on Itch.io. A lot of developers/publishers seem very confused about what kind of game they've made. You can also sort by name or rating.

[4/25: Phew! I've cleaned up the broken links and the clutter on the name and rating pages. Now to get genre sorting back in shape. Should be done by the end of the week.] Genres on this page, alphabetically: Action / Adventure / Card Game / Educational / Fighting / Interactive Fiction / Platformer / Puzzle / Rhythm

See Page 2 for: Role Playing / Shooter / Simulation / Strategy / Visual Novel / N/A (No genre tag)
