TYPING IN PRACTICE POST # 10: MARSHALL MATHERS (EMINEM)

Marshall Mathers (Eminem) is the first of many Detroit area "hometown heroes" I'm going to look at in these "Typing In Practice" posts. He was a "white guy" who made it in rap, a "black artform". Disclaimer: a lot of people type his rap persona, which I would agree is some kind of High D (Dominance) ET type, but nobody ever actually tries to type Marshall Mathers, the true person behind the persona. I'm going to be bold, and actually type the person Marshall Mathers, and not the persona Eminem. Now let's go into how I actually typed him

Step 1: One day, several months ago, people on Reddit were talking about Eminem's MBTI type. There was one response I liked. It said: "8 Mile Eminem: ESTP, The Real Slim Shady: ISTP, Marshall Mathers: ISFP ". The reason I liked the comment was because I had read some articles about Eminem's relationship with his ex-wife and daughters, and he worked the relationships with a kind of submissive attitude. On top of that, I also noticed significant dominance traits (enough to be above 50/50) even in his true personality. Therefore, I figured he was probably S/D in DISC,and as we learned in Typing In Practice post #8, S/D in DISC is the home profile for the MBTI type ISFP. I thought I had this case cracked, and it would be as simple as determining Eminem's perceiving axis. Boy, though, was I wrong.

Step 2: I watched some Eminem interviews to type the perceiving axis , but instead made an interesting discovery! In all 3 videos, the main topic of conversation was people, people, people. And not just that , but talking about people in an interpersonal way. This was Eminem's primary focus, and it was Fe! 😯So much to my surprise, the real Marshall Mathers behind the persona is actually an Fe dom, and belongs in the I (Influencing) quadrant of DISC. He also had significant S (Steadiness) and D (Dominance) traits like I had said before. So at this point , we know the Real Marshall Mathers is in the I quadrant, and Fe is his dominant function, so letter-wise, we have ExFJ.

Step 3: In DISC, there are 2 adjacent slots on the wheel, Slot 46 I/D/S, and Slot 47 I/S/D, that have I, S, and D all above 50/50. However, both those slots have something in common. They're Fe with an undifferentiated auxiliary function. What is the difference? Slot 46 (which was Felipe's slot in True Types post #2) is Fe preferring N>S. Slot 47 is Fe preferring S>N So just like with Erik Thor in Typing In Practice post #7, I knew I would have to determine Eminem's most resonant MBTI, by determining the frequency of S vs . N

Step 4: The next step was to determine the frequency of S vs. N. I did this by writing out the MBTI facets on a piece of paper, and charting how many times sensation and intuition popped up in the videos. Instances were kind of hard to spot because the videos were so overwhelmed with feeling, since the real Marshall Mathers was Fe1, but they were there. Sensation won by about 5 tick marks in the sensation-intuition war.

Step 5: at this point we add S as the second letter to his type, and we have a type, folks.

In summary, the real Marshall Mathers (not the persona) is in Slot 47 on the DISC wheel, and his SOJT type is Fe, preferring S >N. He doesn't fit neatly into an MBTI type, but the MBTI type most resonant is ESFJ.

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST #5: KRISTIN (YOUTUBER FROM AUSTRALIA) FROM "DEAR KRISTIN "

Kristin is a YouTuber from Australia, who does many MBTI skits, and just like everyone else, practically, in the mainstream MBTI community , she is mistyped. I'm going to let her true type unfold as you read the process I went through to type her.

But first a little background about Kristin. She really wanted to go into professional acting, however, she didn't want to put in the time and effort and risk necessary to go into acting, so she went to college to become an acting teacher instead. She became a teacher and taught acting in South Korea for a few years. Then she returned to Australia to get a masters degree in education. Sometime during this time, she discovered the MBTI, and started making videos of MBTI skits, posting them on Instagram. When she finished her masters degree, the pandemic hit, and she figured it would be a long time before she could get a new teaching job. Someone advised her that those MBTI skits she was posting on Instagram, she should post on YouTube. And with that , the "Dear Kristin " YouTube channel was born.

So without further ado, I will take you through the process I went through to *correctly* type Kristin:

1. Back in September of last year (2021), I watched this video:

It is very clear in watching this video, that she is a mistype, based on the way she's describing Fi and Te. Rather than describing them the way modern MBTI theororists describe them, she used the actual Jungian definitions of those functions. The people who function like that in Jungian typology are all the ET (Dominance) types. Also in this video , she mentioned having high expectations for her housemates, but not so high for herself. As you can see from the chart below, ( Taken from " Understanding How Others Misunderstand You " by Ken Voges and Ron Braund p. 55) that is actually associated with high Dominance

So, for a long time, I thought Kristin was likely actually an ESTP or ESTJ, as they get mistyped as ESFPs all the time because of applying Jung's definitions of functions to the alternating stacks. You can't do that, people!

2. Well, anyway, I was caught on her being some kind of ET type, for the reasons listed above, and I was getting ready to submit her for a typing to a Jungian typology discord I'm on. But then, I watched this video, and it totally changed my mind about her type:

Remember how in my True Types posts, I'm constantly talking about foci? I say there's 4 possible foci we can have. They are : tasks (T), people (F), objects (S) and ideas (N). Well, upon watching this video, two things became clear to me: 1. Even though Kristin fancied herself as a High D in the other video , she's actually a High I (Influence), which corresponds with the EF types in MBTI and conscious Fe with Jung. And 2. I was able to get a good read on her foci. Her primary focus is people, people, people, and more people. So her conscious Fe is actually her dominant function. Her secondary focus, and this caught me off guard, (but in the end,it made sense) is ideas. Therefore, Ne is her auxiliary function, and Kristin is an intuitive, not a sensor! 😯

I watched the lockdown video again, as well as another video she did about mental health, and I kept seeing the same things over and over: Fe1, Ne2.

3. So then, I sent this to the Jungian typology group. They saw exactly what I saw, but typed her as an ESFJ, because she couldn't possibly be an ENFJ because she didn't match the Kiersey or Berens temperaments for ENFJ, and said that what I was calling Ne2 could also just be from Fe1/Ti4. I didn't agree with that, and almost told the people who were saying this to go back and look at the MBTI facets, because on these videos, Kristin makes hardly any mention of objects or object relationships. However, she's constantly talking about ideas, abstract concepts, her creativity, her imagination, and how she wants her and things to be new, original and unique. Those are all MBTI facets for N not S. But I didn't. I figured I'd keep this thought to myself

And here's a picture of the MBTI facets:

See all those words Kristin demonstrated and described herself as on the N side? I do agree Kristin is a little bit more on the experiential side than the theororetical side. But all the other 4, she's N. So N would, in fact, be her second letter.

4. One thing I had left to do to confirm this was DISC. So I looked for D traits and S traits in the 3 videos, as I/D =ENFJ and I/S= ESFJ. I did this to see if I might have been missing something, and that maybe Kristin has an undifferentiated auxiliary function, in which case , both her D and S would be above 50/50 , like they were for Felipe in True Types post 2. But , no, she came back straight I/D. She mentioned people pleasing in all the videos, but that's the only S trait she mentioned. However, she mentioned a lot of D traits: the ones I've already mentioned, as well as a dislike for expressing feelings, and a desire for self-autonomy.

5. I already mentioned that ENFJ is a type that gets I/D results on DISC assessments. But I didn't mention who gets I/D. The types that get an I/D result are the 5 variations of ENFJ, as well as the I/D (-) result. I'm thinking that result might be another type. I've got to have someone get the result to know for sure. And as you have already seen, Kristin's Jung function analysis and MBTI facets also suggested ENFJ.

So yes, in summary, Kristin is an ENFJ

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST #4: MILEY CYRUS

Miley Cyrus is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, a country music singer who madeit big with "Achy Breaky Heart" in the early 1990s in the US. Billy was able to get his daughter Miley a child acting gig as Hannah Montana in a television show on the Disney Channel. In the late 2000s, Miley started her own singing career.

She has had a lot of issues with addiction, and has been in and out of treatment, and has talked openly about her addiction problems. She has become kind of an advocate for those suffering from addiction and mental illness these days.

In typing Miley, I used the same interview videos CS Joseph did, but once, again, my result was different than his, go figure.

The first thing I noticed was that Miley Cyrus was highly interpersonal in all her interviews. She kept mentioning people coming together, what "we" did, having compassion for the needy and poor, etc. These are all interpersonal characteristics, which suggest that Miley Cyrus has conscious Jung Fe, and belongs in the I quadrant.

Step 2: I went back and listened to the videos a second time, trying to see if I could pin down her exact location in the I quadrant. Was she a conscious sensor ( left side of quadrant), or a conscious intuitive (right side of quadrant)? In the interviews, she was talking about practical things she and her people were doing to help the poor and needy. She wasn't just theororizing about it; she was actually out there doing stuff about it. When you read articles about her, you also see that she is actively dealing with objects in her everyday life, rather than passively dealing with ideas. Miley's conscious perceiving function, then, is sensing, which puts her as one of the types, whose fully differentiated version is on the left side of the I quadrant: Se-f and Fe-s.

Step 3: I went back through the videos yet a third time, to see if I could could detect any secondary S traits in Miley at all, as DISC profile-wise, I had narrowed things down to Primary I (home to Se-f), and I/S (home to Fe-s). I detected no secondary S traits in Miley. So my final decision on a DISC profile for Miley is Primary I

Step 4: What MBTI types get a Primary I result in DISC? Primary I has 6 slots on the DISC wheel, 5 of which are variations on Se-f. Se-f in Jungian is an ESFP in the MBTI. The sixth slot is a variation of Ne-f, but we already determined Miley was a sensor, so we can easily assume she's not in that slot, but rather one of the 5 sensing slots

Miley Cyrus is an ESFP

TRUE TYPES POST #38: FLORENTINO (TINO)

DISC: Primary I profile; I (D) (S), slot 6

SOJT type: S-f (undifferentiated attitude, D>A dominant function serves as dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: ESFP

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, I was well known and well liked, despite having cerebral palsy. The students saw the as a good M. C. , so I got to be the M.C. at all the student pep rallies, dances, and similar events

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is not being liked. I think I've overcome that fear with a lot of practice

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

No. I've never really felt like I've hit rock bottom. Life has been a constant growth experience for me

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I'd say I'm an ambivert. Sometimes, I can be really outgoing. Other times, I can be really shy

What are some things that really bother you?

Liars are a big one. I also like people to trust me too. And when they don't, that bothers me

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm flexible and adaptable. I also have good social skills. I'm good at reading people, and understanding what they're *really* saying

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I struggle with being dependable and reliable. I'm often running late, and I sometimes screw up, and drop the ball. I also have a tendency to take things too personally

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

My introverted self is slower paced, hates confrontation, and does not like change

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever had to do was go to a regular school, with my cerebral palsy. I was afraid people wouldn't like me or respect me. But I put myself out there anyway, and they did like me, and treated me well

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I honestly don't think I've ever really been sad. But if I were sad, I'd certainly be sad in private

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I feel average

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

Objects first. My life revolves around objects and their details. I'm all about creating very detailed images of objects in my line of work, and I really enjoy it. I'd say second is people. What would life be without them?

What do you  do to have fun?

I go on trips with my one daughter who lives with me. We like to visit new places every time we travel. Sometimes, I also get to bring my two sons, although they don't live with me

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

My parents wanted to have more boys. I was their first son. They had 3 daughters before they had me. But because I had cerebral palsy, that made it difficult to raise me, and when my parents could have been having more boys, they were dealing with my difficulties instead. So when I was a teen, they found some women at church who would be willing to carry babies for them, if they had a sperm donor. So yes, I donated some of my sperm to my parents , so they could give it to the women at church, and the women could then carry babies with my parents' DNA. And yes, out of the deal, my parents got 2 more boys to raise (my sons).

Thanks, Tino, for sharing. We appreciate it.

TRUE TYPES POST #37: IGNACIO (RUSTY)

DISC: D=I profile; result: D=I (-), not on wheel

SOJT type: Se ( undifferentiated auxiliary function, preferring T> F)

MBTI type most resonant: ESTP

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, even though I was well known and well liked, I spent most of my time just hanging out and having fun. I seemed like an unlikely candidate for it, but I was in NHS as well

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is being confined or restrained. I also fear not being allowed to have fun. I haven't been able to address my fears yet

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

Yes. My rock bottom came early. My mom and I were living separate from my father and other siblings, which was all I knew. I still have yet to meet them. On top of that, we were homeless. Somehow, my mom and I got to come to the United States. At least we had a place to live here

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I don't know. I'd say maybe an ambivert leaning a little extroverted? I think that sounds about right with where I'd be on that spectrum

What are some things that really bother you?

I think the things I fear the most are also the things that bother me the most. Those would be being confined or restrained, and not being allowed to have fun

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I am reliable and dependable, and get things done. I can also be social if I want to be

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

Love and compassion are not very natural for me most of the time, although sometimes I am. However, I *always* have issues with arrogance and patience. I can get really puffed up, and I can be super impatient. I also struggle with self discipline, because my impulsiveness can get in the way

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

I don't really know if I've ever done this. I'm not sure what I'd be like

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever had to do was open up to my friends. I like people to see me as someone who has it all together. I had to open up about the fact that I've never met my father or my siblings, and my mother and I were homeless. It was hard, bit once my friends knew that they showed me more sympathy, and they respected me more, so it was all good in the end

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

When I'm sad, I'm definitely not in public, and I go it alone

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I feel average

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

My first focus is objects. I work in the skilled trades, and I love doing things with my hands. I'm also very observant of objects, and good at keeping track of details involving them. Second would be tasks, because you can rely on me to complete them, and I love to complete things. It makes me feel good. A distant third, I would say people, because I can be social. Ideas are a non-factor.

What do you  do to have fun?

What do I do to have fun? I don't *have* fun. I *am* fun. Fun follows me wherever I go

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

The nicest thing I ever did for someone was to let people live with me, when they needed a place to live, and they were someone I knew. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a total stranger live with me, but friends in hard times, no problem. I did it, because I know what it's like to be homeless, and at the mercy of friends for a place to stay

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST#3: MICHAEL JACKSON

So for my next typing in practice post, we are going to look at Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. Michael Jackson (1958-2009) was a black man in the United States of America, who made something of himself, and became successful. He was looked up to as a role model for many people (especially black) from my generation as someone who had succeeded in life. He started his career singing R&B back in the late 1960s at age 11, as part of a band that contained his other brothers. He went solo at some point in the 1970s, and mainly focused on R&B-Pop crossovers, starting with the album, Off The Wall. One thing I always liked about Michael Jackson was his deep religious convictions. They kept his song lyrics pretty tame, and his dance moves and dress rather modest. But there was so much to love about him, and the lasting impact he has made around the world with his music.

So, I typed him, through listening to interviews of his, that C.S. Joseph had listened to, to type him. And, of course, my result I came up with was a lot different than CS Joseph's result. Go figure.

The first thing I noticed was all the Fe (Jungian, not Grant) decisions he was making. Things like not saying something about someone during a show, without their permission, for example. How polite, considerate, courteous and kind he was being , respecting the rules and playing by them, just struck me as Fe, and since it was so prevalent in the interviews, and something he did well, I went with it being conscious Fe, which means we can place Michael Jackson in the I quadrant.

There are 4 profiles in the I quadrant, Primary I, I/D, I/S and I/C. I then went back through the videos, to see if I could identify his profile. I then saw a lot of C traits in him, so I went with the I/C profile.

The I/C profile is a very creative profile, that's all about self expression through creativity, but at the same time the I/C profile likes to involve a bunch of people on their projects, and help those people also achieve greatness along with them. King David in the Bible had this profile. Almost immediately, I could see parallels between Michael Jackson's legendary albums, where he introduced the world to the likes of Paulinho DaCosta and Siedah Garrett; and King David's military victories, which he achieved in rather creative ways, where he introduced the world to his "Mighty Men". They were everywhere.

So , now we know Michael Jackson's DISC profile is I/C. What does that translate to in the MBTI? Well, I/C has its fully differentiated Jungian type on the intuitive side of the I quadrant, and that fully differentiated Jungian type is: ding, ding, ding- Ne-f!

So yes, there are only 4 possible I/C results, and all my test subjects who got them were variations of the SOJT type Ne-f, and I confirmed their Briggs Myers types to be ENFP.

So Michael Jackson's MBTI type is ENFP

DISC: D/C profile; result: D/C (I), slot 22

SOJT type: Te (undifferentiated auxiliary function, favoring S>N)

MBTI type most resonant: ESTJ

What were  you  like  in high school?

I was a premature "hustler". Let's put it that way

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is looking contradictory to people, or coming across as a hypocrite. This is a deep seated fear, and I haven't been able to overcome it

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

Rock bottom? That's a hard one. I guess you could say it was the death of my husband. It didn't affect my work performance too much, however, because my life is so focused on working and achievements, I don't think I ever really took time to mourn my loss

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

Extrovert, but not socially oriented. I've got a lot of energy to me

What are some things that really bother you?

People not being reliable, for one. Second, I would say me not setting a good example

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I am dependable and reliable person. You can count on me to hold up my end of the deal. I am also highly productive, and get a lot of things done

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

People say I'm not great with social intelligence. I agree. I try to be, but I'm just not good at it. I also have a hard time forgiving myself, when I make a mistake

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I am introverted, I become like a little child, and when you correct me for bad behavior while I'm in an introverted attitude, I will actually listen to you, and change my ways

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

It was moving to a new city, as a single mom with a blended family containing 6 children, after my husband's death. We had completely planned the move, and everything was in place, when he passed away. Because everything was in place, I and my 6 children made the move anyway, on the scheduled date. It was hard because I was making the move as a single parent, without my husband. Also, I was moving out of my hometown for the first time in my life, at age 33!

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

The last time I was sad was so long ago, I can't remember. Sorry

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I'd say I'm slightly more masculine than most women. I've kind of got a masculine and very businesslike bent to me, but even then, I was never thought of as, nor would I consider myself to be,a tomboy

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

Tasks are definitely first. My life is all about completing tasks, and achieving goals. I would say second is objects. I definitely prefer objects over ideas, and very much over people

What do you  do to have fun?

I actually need to learn how to have fun. It's like my life is all work and no play

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

The nicest thing I've ever done for people is to be reliable and dependable. People know they can always count on me to complete things, and to do what I say I will. I do that because that's just the type of person I am naturally and instinctively

Thanks, Cara, for sharing with us

SOJT type: fully differentiated Fe-s

MBTI type most resonant: ESFJ * (this is the most typical version of ESFJ)

What were  you  like  in high school?

I was immature and loud. People are so thankful that I grew up 😆🤣😂

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is that I would lose my social status and all my friends. I try to overcome this fear by learning to love myself, but it's hard!

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

It was when my ex-wife Kathy and I got a divorce. I became a single dad to 2 sons, and I couldn't always be there for them, because I played for the symphony orchestra, and a lot of times, we went on tour. At those times, I had to leave my sons with other relatives.

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

Definitely extroverted. Why? It's obvious

What are some things that really bother you?

It really bothers me when people put limits on my social interactions

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm loving, compassionate, kind and cheerful

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I'm too trusting with people, and I gossip. Also, people think I'm loud and obnoxious-thankfully nowhere as much as when I was in high school

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm introverted, I feel like I'm a fake person, and I am not worthy of friends or social status

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever did was raise my 2 sons as a single dad, and not being able to be present in their lives as often as I would want to be. It was hard, because I really love my sons, and I wanted to be with them during their growing up years more often than I was able

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I'm usually alone until I'm ready to be with people, and then I need a friend or two to reassure me

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

Most people would say I'm kind of feminine in comparison to other men, but I don't really see myself that way. I see myself as average

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

People are definitely first in my life, considering that my whole life revolves around them. Second, I would say objects, because I like using them, and I'm good with practical things like handiwork and detail

What do you  do to have fun?

I like to hang out with friends and family! Of course! 😆🤣😂

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

The nicest thing I ever did goes like this: When Kathy and I got a divorce, she returned me the ring I gave her. Several years later, I still had the ring , and my younger son had a girlfriend he wanted to propose to. I gave him the ring. The reason was that he was disabled, and I knew he would never be able to buy a ring anytime soon. I had one, so I figured why not

STUDY NOTES #3: MBTI TYPES AND DEPRESSION

Note: all of these people met the diagnostic criteria for depression, as spelled out in the DSM. A lot of them would have been, or were, diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, which is where the depression is severe and incapacitating, episodic in nature, and has time periods of normal functioning between episodes. However, more of them would have had, or had Dysthymia, which is a chronic form of depression. People with Dysthymia have mild depression, and are functional for the most part. However, when they're really stressed, the depression can get worse, and then get better when the stress resolves, but it never completely goes away, and the person is chronically unhappy

I will do some True Types Dynamics posts in the future, where I will explain what depression looked like in 15 of the 16 types ( the one lone ENTJ was not depressed) - the commonalities between all the types, as well as the differences unique to each type

So let's take a look at the 200, and who and how many of the 200 had depression :

(Some of the numbers for the types might be a little off from previous studies. It's because I discovered slot 105 is ENFP, instead of ESFP, so those people in slot 105 have been relocated in this study, and I'm going to fix that in the previous studies, as soon as I can figure out how)

INTP-1 of 11, 9% of INTP. He had Dysthymia.

ISFP-3 of 12, 25% of ISFP. They all had Dysthymia

INFJ-5 of 9, 55% of INFJ. 3 had MDD, 2 had Dysthymia

INFP-1 of 4, 25% of INFP. He had MDD.

ISFJ- 5 of 13, 38% of ISFJ. 3 had MDD, 2 had Dysthymia

ISTJ-8 of 23, 35% of ISTJ. 4 had MDD, 4 had Dysthymia

ESFJ- 1 of 21, 5% of ESFJ. He had Dysthymia

ENFP- 1of 10, 10% of ENFP. She had Dysthymia

ESTP- 1 of 8, 12.5 % of ESTP. He had MDD

ENFJ- 2 of 8, 25% of ENFJ. Both had Dysthymia

ESFP- 5 of 12, 42% of ESFP. They all had Dysthymia

INTJ- 5 of 15, 33% of INTJ. They all had MDD

ISTP- 2 of 18 , 11% of ISTP. Both had MDD

ESTJ-2 of 16, 12.5% of ESTJ. Both had Dysthymia

ENTP-2 of 19, 10.5% of ENTP. One had MDD, one had Dysthymia

STUDY NOTES #2: STATISTCAL ANALYSIS OF JUNGIAN TYPES

Statistical Analysis of Jungian Types For this statistical analysis, I typed 200 characters from my many series of dreams. They were spontaneously living their lives in my dreams, and I was not controlling or influencing their actions, since I was asleep. Therefore, analyzing these personalities is almost as good as analyzing real people's personalities, and much closer to real people's personalities than fictional character's personalities. I typed them all using DISC. Then I did a Jungian function analysis for each unique result I got on a DISC assessment, to figure out their Jungian type. I also figured out which fully differentiated Jungian types belong to which DISC profiles, and from there, was able to correlate each DISC profile with a Briggs Myers type The correlations between DISC assessment results and Briggs Myers types were as follows: ESTJ: D/C [S]or [I], D/S [C], D=C, D/C/S*, D/S/C (D/C Creative umbrella); I/D [-] (I/D Persuader umbrella)

ESTP: all D=I results, including D=I [C] [S]* (D=I Inspirational umbrella) ENTJ: all Primary D results, and I don't know where the fully differentiated result is, for sure(Primary D Director umbrella) ENTP: D/I [S] or [C], D/I/C*, D/C/I, D/I/S, D/S/I (D/I Result Oriented umbrella)

ESFJ: I/S [D]*, [C] or [-], I/S/D, I/S/C, I=S (I/S Counselor umbrella) ESFP: all Primary I results, including I [S] [D]* (Primary I Promoter umbrella) ENFJ: I/D [C]* or [S], I/D/C, I/D/S (I/D Persuader umbrella) ENFP: I/C [D]* or [S], I/C/D, I/C/S (I/C Appraiser umbrella) ISFJ: all Primary S results, including S [D] [C]* (Primary S Specialist umbrella) ISFP: S/D [C], S/D/C* (S/D Achiever umbrella) INFJ: S/I [D]*, S/I/D (S/I Agent umbrella); S/D [I], S/D/I (S/D Achiever umbrella) INFP: S/I [C]*, S/I/C, S/C/I (S/I Agent umbrella)

ISTJ: S/C [I], [D] or [-], S=C, S/C/D (S/C/D Investigator umbrella); C/S [I], C/S/I* (C/S Perfectionist umbrella) ISTP: C/S [D]*, C/S/D (C/S Perfectionist umbrella); C/D [S], C/D/S (D/C Creative umbrella)

INTJ: C/I [D] or [S], C/I/D*, C/I/S (C/I/S Practitioner umbrella); C/D [I], C/D/I (D/C Creative umbrella) INTP: all Primary C results, including C [D] [S]* (Primary C Deep Thinker umbrella) *=the DISC result for each fully differentiated Jungian type

A had the most ESFJs and ENFPs of any origin group, and E/A had the most ESFPs and ENFJs of any group. When you combine A and E/A together and include the VMs with African ancestry, they made up: 55% of the ESFJs, 60% of the ENFPs, and a whopping 88% of both the ENFJs and ESFPs! 😯! People with European and Native American ancestry are the most likely of any group to get an NT result. This was something I had read about previously on 16Personalities.com, so it didn't surprise me much at all

Analysis Breakdown of the Total The types, in order from most common to least common, in this sample: *Note: I still have a bunch of untyped characters, so in the case of a tie, I broke the tie by looking at the characters and figuring out, based on the personality characteristics of those untyped characters, which type is most likely to come up first. 27. Analysis Breakdown by Gender *For the first 2 statistics, I will not be including the type ENTJ, since only one character got that result. There would have to be at least two results, and one for each gender (1 male, 1 female) for the type to be included in these first two statistics Female: Most common types: 1. ESFJ, 2. ENTP, 3. ESTJ Highest % of types: 1. ESFJ (18%), 2. ENTP (16%), 3. ESTJ (14%) Women dominated the following types by at least 2% if 10 or more/1% if less than 10: ESFJ, ENFP, ENFJ, ESTJ, ENTP Male: Most common types: 1. ISTJ, 2. ISTP, 3. INTJ/ESFP Highest % of types: 1. ISTJ (11.7%), 2. ISTP (10.7%), 3. INTJ/ESFP (8.7%) Men dominated the following types by at least 2% if 10 or more/1% if less than 10: INTP, ISFP, INFJ, ESTP, INTJ, ESFP, ISTP *ISFJ, ISTJ and INFP were basically gender neutral *for these next 2 statistics, the ENTJ will be included Female, by trait: Extroversion 33 (66% of total) Introversion 17 (34% of total) Sensing 31 (62% of total) Intuitive 19 (38% of total) Thinking 27 (54%of total) Feeling 23 (46%of total) Judging 30 (60% of total) Perceiving 20 (40% of total) Guardian 24 (48% of total) Artisan 7 (14% of total) Idealist 7 (14% of total) Rational 12 (24% of total) Male, by trait: Extroversion 62 (41.3% of total) Introversion 88 (58.7% of total) Sensing 95 (63.3% of total) Intuition 55 (36.7% of total) Thinking 84 (56% of total) Feeling 66 (44% of total) Judging 75 (50% of total) Perceiving 75 (50% of total) Guardian 48 (32% of total) Artisan 47 (31.3% of total) Idealist 21 (14% of total) Rational 34 (22.7% of total) TRENDS SPOTTED ** Women trended 66%/34% on extroversion/introversion, favoring extroversion, while the men trended 41%/59%, favoring introversion. Women also had higher percentages than men on all the extroverted types* except the 2 artisans (_S_Ps). Therefore, one would conclude women are more likely to be extroverted than men *=this statistic does not include the one lone ENTJ Women and men were about equal, when it came to totals of Idealists and Rationals. However, women were 16% more likely than men to be Guardians, and men were 17% more likely than women to be Artisans. The Briggs Myers Institute says men are more likely to be thinkers than women, and women are more likely to be feelers than men. This is true, but only by 2% both directions, and that's a rather statistically insignificant percentage. *However, something to note: both men and women are more likely to be thinkers than feelers! 😱 Mind blown! Jungian typologists say that men are more likely to be perceivers than women, and women are more likely to be judgers than men. This is also true, but only by 10% in both directions, so a little bit more statistically significant than the thinker/feeler numbers, but still not as significant as the extroversion/introversion trend or the Guardian/Artisan trend

The only really significant trends I observed, then, in summary: Women are 35% more likely to be extroverts Men are 35% more likely to be introverts Women are 16% more likely to be Guardians Men are 17% more likely to be Artisans The End 👏🤞

STUDY NOTES POST #1: STUDY ON CS JOSEPH GRID

Study conducted on the CS Joseph grid summer 2021

This study was conducted using 180 personalities that were present in my night time dreams from approximately 1986- 2010. These personalities were likely those of people I knew, but they just had different names and appearances in my dreams. They were spontaneously living their lives in my dreams, and I was sleeping, I was not influencing the outcome of the situations I dreamed in my dreams. For about a decade, I had wanted to do a mass typing of my "dream people" , in order to better understand their interactions. I watched a video about the CS Joseph grid last spring, and figured it would be a great tool to use for such a mass typing. So I typed 180 of my "dream people" using it. But a short time later, CS Joseph lost all credibility with me, as I delved deeper into his video library. What I uncovered called into question the accuracy of his grid, and all the typings I had just done on it. So I then went and retyped all the 180 "dream people", using DISC. I then used my then new, now seasoned, knowledge of Jung's functions to associate each DISC result with a Briggs Myers type. The summary of the study results follow. The correct type of the 180 dream people is whatever type they got in DISC and Jungian typology, regardless of if it coincided with the CS Joseph grid result or not. And trust me, for each person the CS Joseph grid mistyped, the DISC/Jungian arrived Briggs Myers type made a lot more sense, in all cases. Without further ado, here's the numbers:

Conclusion

After looking at these statistics, I was both surprised and horrified at the same time. I personally will no longer use the CS Joseph grid as a typing tool anymore, based on its 43% accuracy rate from the 180 person sample I threw at it. It only typed 78 of the 180 people correctly. From now on, I will use DISC assessments only. Why did the CS Joseph grid mistype 102 people? Here's my theories, in the order I feel they had an impact:

1. The CS Joseph grid attempts to place the 16 Briggs Myers types on a grid that has different dichotomies than the MBTI. The grid's dichotomies are the dichotomies of the 4 Greek Temperaments (extroversion vs introversion, neuroticism vs stability). Neuroticism vs stability is measured in the 4 Greek Temperaments, but not in the MBTI. As a result, when one tries to place the 16 Briggs Myers types on such a grid, one is basically categorizing whole populations of Briggs Myers types as either neurotic or stable. But the truth is, that since neuroticism vs stability is not measured in the MBTI, there are neurotic and stable people in all 16 types. So what happens if you're neurotic and have a categorized stable type, or you're stable and have a categorized neurotic type? You get mistyped. Plain and simple. I estimate this was a main factor, or a contributing factor, for nearly all the mistypes.

2. The CS Joseph grid makes incorrect correlations between traits and Kiersey types. For example, all Intellectuals are systematic. No, all NJs are systematic. Or all Artisans are pragmatic. No, all ETs and IFs are pragmatic. I estimate this was a main factor, or a contributing factor, for nearly all the mistypes.

3. The CS Joseph grid's interaction styles are not universal, and don't transcend cultural barriers. I believe the interaction styles on the grid are geared towards mainstream western culture, however, a large portion (about half) of the 180 people I typed on the grid interacted in ways typical of hispanic culture. This led to mistypes, because interactions between people in Hispanic culture and western culture are different. This was a main factor, or a contributing factor, for 54 mistypes.

4. There are stereotypes for each Briggs Myers type that end up getting associated with the wrong types after generations of common mistypes and associations with incorrect cognitive functions. For instance, about 75% of an ISTP type description actually describes an INTJ. Or about 65% of an ESFP type description actually describes an ESFJ. This was a main factor, or a contributing factor, for 42 mistypes

In this post, I'm going to discuss a family from my dreams, where the father and both of his sons turned out to be ESFPs, when I did my typings of the "dream people" last summer. The funny thing was, even though they all ended up being ESFPs, they were all different from each other in various ways

I have often times heard people throw around different reasons for why people of the same Briggs Myers type can be slightly different from each other. Reasons I've heard are education, career, life experiences (eg. trauma), Enneagram, temperament blend, etc. I am telling you right now, none of those is the actual reason behind it. The actual reason is your SOJT type!

SOJT has 141 types, and each Briggs Myers type has at least 4 different SOJT types: a fully differentiated type, an undifferentiated attitude type, an undifferentiated auxiliary function type, and a type where the auxiliary function serves as the dominant. Some Briggs Myers types also contain some people who are more than one type , but their Briggs Myers type is their dominant type.

So now we get to meet the family with 3 ESFPs.

Arvid (who went by the nickname "Vizzy", and I'm going to call him that in this post, so to not confuse him with his junior) was the father, and he was in slot 6 on the DISC wheel. He had an undifferentiated attitude leaning extroverted. Incidentally, his auxiliary also served as his dominant, so his SOJT type is F-s.

Son number one is Arvid, Jr. ( I will be calling him Arvid in this post, because he liked being called that, and didn't go by a nickname). He was in slot 7 on the DISC wheel, and was a fully differentiated Se-f. One special thing of note was that he also exhibited a profound dislike of Ne

Son number two is Christian. We already discussed him in True Types post #8. He is in slot 5 on the DISC wheel. He is fully differentiated, and more than one type: Se-f/Fe-n.

Since Vizzy was dead by the time his sons grew up, the "mock interviews " will be with Arvid and Christian, and they will be relaying how they were different or like Vizzy

ARVID:

How are you like your father?

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is our voices, when we sing. He had a full and loud voice when he sang, and so do I. I also modeled the way I dress and wear my hair after how my father did in his later years. I thought he looked really good that way. I also loved how my parents adopted 2 children, who were the sons of my father's childhood friend. When they did that, I decided I would do nice things like that for others, too. People see me as a very nice person now.

How are you different from your father?

I believe I'm tougher and more masculine than he was. Also, he had this thing where he always had to wear contacts in public. He only ever wore glasses at home. My brother, incidentally, is the same way. I am different than both of them, in that I will wear either glasses or contacts in public. It doesn't matter to me. Another way I'm different from both my father and brother is that my father loved to wear hairstyles, most notably twist-outs. My brother loves to wear hairstyles too. Locs are his go-to. Me, I just wear my hair how it grows on my head 😆 And then, there's our names. We were both Arvid Izzy. However, my father always went by Izzy or Vizzy. Me, on the other hand, I go by Arvid. I like my name as Arvid. I don't like nicknames or anything. When my mother remarried, after my father passed, I asked if she could remove Izzy from my name. She did.

How are you like your brother?

I really don't have much in common with him, aside from the things that I have in common with both my father and brother. Those things all 3 of us have in common are: we're all extremely nice, we are all masters of the piano, we all like being outdoors, we all are ambitious, we all genuinely care about people, we're all interested in how our ancestors show up in us, we're all on the FODMAP diet, and I don't know if this counts, but we're all left handed

How are you different from your brother?

For some reason, my brother makes bad choices with his relationships with women. I'm not sure why. My father and I were very good at finding suitable women for ourselves. I'm not sure why Christian can't. My brother is much more creative than me. I struggle to be creative and come up with ideas. It's much easier for him. He decided to pursue music as a career. I couldn't see myself as a professional musician. I went to trade school instead

CHRISTIAN:

How are you like your father?

I like to wear hairstyles in my hair, the same way he did. Like him, I don't like wearing my glasses in public. Like him, I have been in hospital with sickle cell crises many times, and I have to take medication to control my sickle cell disease. We both had a dream to play classical concert piano. He never got to, because he lost his right hand in an accident. That's what I do, however.

How are you different from your father?

I am bolder, for sure, than he was. He was kind of shy. I'm much bolder, and a risk taker. He wasn't really fond of exercise. My brother Arvid and I lift weights together all the time. I have to do lighter cardio exercise than Arvid, because I'm sicker than him, but yeah, weights we do the same. My father dressed more casually than me, as well. I think that happened because of my profession. I have to dress nicely for my career, so I feel I have to dress nicely at other times too, even though I'm not on the job. My father went by his nickname Vizzy, like it was his first name. I have a nickname, C, but if I'm telling people my name, or having people address me, my name is Christian.

How are you like your brother?

We're both super interested in music. We are both in charge of the music for our church, and we work well as a team, in that capacity. We also both like to travel, and when we travel, we pack light. We both like the outdoors. Often, we will go to national parks together. We llve hanging out in the nature

How are you different from your brother?

I have a much easier time than him in being creative. I am a jazz composer on the side, and I create great music of my own. I feel so sorry for Arvid. He tries to do something like that, and he doesn't succeed. He is better than me, though, at advising people. I almost feel like I've lived a more sheltered life than him, because I haven't experienced quite as much life as him. Therefore, I can't advise people as well as he can. He also seems quite casual in the way he dresses and wears his hair. I'm quite old fashioned with my style, yet at the same time, I'm much better dressed. I do dress down for going to the national parks, doing yard work, working out, and things like that, though.

Thanks, Arvid and Christian, for sharing with us

TRUE TYPES POST #29: PACO

DISC: D/C profile. result: C/D (I), slot 36

SOJT type: T-n, (undifferentiated attitude, D>A dominant serves as dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: INTJ

What were  you  like  in high school?

I was the kid who really wasn't involved that much in school, but after school, I helped my father with his restaurant and his tattoo and piercing business

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

I think my greatest fear is having to be social. I am in social situations pretty regularly at the restaurant. They help me a little with my fear, but they're draining

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

Not really. My life has only been getting better with each day

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I am definitely an introvert, and a task-oriented one, who can function well without people

What are some things that really bother you?

I don't like things that are obviously wrong or broken, that need to be fixed. I don't like lies. I don't like unreliable people

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I would say logic, reliability, dependability, self control and self discipline

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I don't like to talk with others or share my feelings with them. I'm also quite arrogant

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm more extroverted, I can work even better without people, and am much less interested in them, than when I'm introverted. Also , when I'm extroverted, I tend to be more goal oriented, and focused on the task at hand

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever did, although I didn't *have* to do it, was move to Mexico. I have lived in the US all my life, and my family didn't really follow Mexican culture. Therefore, when I moved there, I had a lot to learn

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I can't remember ever being sad

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I think I'm fairly masculine. I'm probably a little more masculine than average

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

First is tasks. Second is ideas. There's no question about that. It's like, super obvious

What do you  do to have fun?

I just come up with things to do. I get plenty of good ideas. When I was in high school, a bunch of us would stay out all night riding the trains all over the city with an adult supervising us, since we were minors

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

I don't really interact with people enough to do nice things, and if I did, I don't think I would be able to understand if the other person really thought I was being nice, or not

Thanks, Paco, for your time. We appreciated it.

Additional typologies I've been able to do since:

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST #2: LI JO

This is one of the first typings (other than my dream people) I did, using my combined DISC/Jungian typology approach. I'm going to break it down step by step, how I typed LiJo.

LiJo is a YouTuber, who's real name is Lindsay Johnson, and believes firmly that she is an INTJ. In many people's eyes, she is obviously mistyped, and when viewers mention that in the comments of her videos, she blocks those viewers from her channel. She has a reputation for being very unfriendly and dominant and controlling on YouTube.

So I figured I would take her on. Here's how I approached the situation:

1. I started by trying to figure out LiJo's function preferences first, to determine which way I should be looking in a type. LiJo prefers S to N and T to F.

2. I looked for facets of DISC, that could help me identify LiJo's DISC profile. LiJo is very authoritative, dominant and controlling. She's also quite productive in her video output, and is efficient in getting videos up and done. She is very practical in her videos, and gets right to the point. She doesn't beat around the bush. She is conscientious, and has some perfectionistic tendencies. Those are facets of D and C, therefore LiJo's DISC profile is D/C. D/C is the only DISC profile that combines those two letters, so yeah, we know the profile has to be D/C.

3. D/C normally has a higher D than C, and is equivalent to the Briggs Myers type ESTJ. However, if the C is higher than the D (same profile name), the type also could be some versions of INTJ and ISTP. So next, we look at Jung's functions. Let's go back to the T and S preferences we identified earlier. Are they "outgoing or reserved" as Marson would say? One thing I often use as a visual aid for "outgoing and reserved " is "outgoing" pushing outward and "reserved" pulling inward. LiJo's conscious functions push outward, so they are extroverted, which means the first letter of LiJo's Briggs Myers type is E. So we know from the available Briggs Myers type options that the D/C profile represents, the only one that makes sense is ESTJ.

4. After this, to confirm LiJo was ESTJ further, I used the letter pairing traits from Briggs Myers. LiJo is definitely SJ and not SP, because she tells all kinds of stories in her videos, and relates them to the past. I also found her to be TJ over TP as well.

5. So, in conclusion, LiJo is ESTJ

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST #1: INTRODUCTION TO TYPING IN PRACTICE

In these "typing in practice " posts, I am going to walk you through how to use the facets of DISC and Jung's functions to actually type people, using celebrities as the typing subjects. I will demonstrate for you the process I went through to come to that conclusion

I hope this is exactly the help you need to figure out how to type using the most accurate typing methods out there: Marston's DISC and Jung's typology. Happy typing!

TRUE TYPES POST #28: CHRIS (FORMERLY BLAINE)

DISC: Primary I profile; result: I (S) (C), slot 8

SOJT type: Fe-s (D<A auxiliary serves as dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: ESFP

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, I was part of the "in" crowd, but I resented that, because if you were "in", people liked you for what you had, and I wanted to be liked for who I was. I was also a star athlete, particularly on the football team, where I was almost always the MVP.

(Note: "football" here is talking about American football, for context's sake)

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is losing control of my weight or my finances. I address the finances, by not using cash, and only buying what I need, and nothing more, on a card. I found it helps. As far as my weight, I exercise some practically every day, about 90% of what I eat is vegan, and I measure my body fat regularly

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

It was when I ended up being wrongfully convicted, and sent to prison. It was a hard thing, but it was good in the end, for many reasons

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I would say I'm an ambivert, straight up. When I'm in conversations with people, I'm listening more often than talking, for sure.

What are some things that really bother you?

People who aren't genuine and real, people who are cruel, and people who are dishonest, particularly those who manipulate others

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm very real, and honest about everything.. I'm like an open book. I have a deep love and compassion for others. I am very brave, in that I am willing to risk my own life to save the lives of others

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I give up too easily. I need persistent people in my life, to keep me going. I'm really bad at planning things. Don't ask me to plan anything without someone helping me. I'm also highly disorganized and am frequently late. Because of these things, people see me as rather unreliable, even though you really can rely on me in most areas. Them being so narrow minded makes me sad

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm introverted, I become suspicious of others, and start questioning things. And , of course, I have to check, cross check and verify everything

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever had to do, and one of the reasons I'm glad I was sent to prison, was to report my brother-in-law and some associates of his to the police. They were killing people, under the belief that they were doing the right thing, as part of a white supremacist group. They had tried to kill me many times, as well, because I didn't want to join them and had opposite views. So I had to wait until I was in a place where I could be under police protection before I reported them. Funny how things worked out

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

When I'm sad, I get alone, and cry in private

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I'm, like, super masculine. I'm really big and strong and full of energy. I'm not afraid to use my physical size and strength to stop a fight, or save someone's life. I've done that many times before.

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

Objects are definitely my number one focus. I am a construction worker, I am still very athletic, and I also make crafts I sell online. They are my life, first and foremost. Second, I would say people. I have a loving and compassionate heart, and I care about everyone, particularly my wife and children

What do you  do to have fun?

Physical things, and adventures. And I love to go on them with my wife and children. And they don't mind. They like physical things and adventures, just like me

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

There's many things I've done, and I've talked about many of them already, but I also want to add that I raised my niece and nephew as my own children. I saw my parents trying to raise them, and thought since I was younger, and more of a child raising age, that I would let my parents have a normal grandparent- grandchild relationship with them, and I would raise them as my children. Both of them, especially my niece, like to call me Dad, even though they know I'm really their uncle. It makes me feel so special and loved.

Thank you, Chris, for sharing with us

Additional typologies I've been able to do since:

Big 5: High on E, A, N; Low on O,C (SLUAN)

Enneagram: 3w4, sx/sp, 379

TRUE TYPES POST #27: JOE

DISC: S/I profile; result: S/I (C), slot 30* (this is the most typical version of S/I)

SOJT type: fully differentiated Ni-f ( D>A dominant serves as dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: INFP* (this is the most typical version of INFP)

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, I was smart, I got good grades, and was in NHS. I also acted in the theater department, sang in the choir and played drums. I was definitely not part of the "in" crowd

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is change, and I've made a conscious effort to try to be more flexible and spontaneous, so that change isn't quite as jarring. But unfortunately, it still is

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

No. I feel, a lot of times, like I'm kind of on the outside looking in, when it comes to life experiences, so I don't really know if I've personally truly lived enough life to hit rock bottom

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I'm an introvert, but a more social one. I'm close to an ambivert, but not quite

What are some things that really bother you?

I absolutely hate being told what to do. It also bothers me a lot when people pull me into their conflicts, and want me to mediate or solve them. Sorry, folks. I hate conflict, and I'm not a problem solver. Please leave me alone

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

It's kind of hard for me to look at myself, but I can tell you what people say about me. They say I'm non-judgmental and kind, and a good listener. I don't know how true those views are, or if they really match with reality

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

For this one, people say I'm very stubborn and set in my ways, that I jump to conclusions a lot, and that I have some things I do on a routine basis that are not helpful or beneficial in any way. But once again, I'm not a good judge of this, and don't know how true these views are either

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm extroverted, it's almost like I'm not afraid of anything. I could be wrong, though

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

I can't really answer this question, because I don't think I've really experienced hard times. Like I said, a lot of times, I just don't feel fully present in my life, so a lot of these are hard to answer

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I'm not very emotional, and I don't really get sad. But if I did, I'd certainly deal with it in a private way

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I feel average for the most part, maybe a little more masculine than most men, right now. In the past, I have had some "feeling feminine " moments

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

Ideas are definitely first. They rule over me, and my thinking, for sure. Next, I would say people, because, as I said earlier, I'm social for an introvert

What do you  do to have fun?

I think it's fun when me and my family can do something fun together. It can also be fun for me to be alone, and spending time in my thoughts

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

This is a hard question to answer for more reasons than one. If I have to....people say I give good advice, but it's more philosophical than actually practical. People say I've helped them too, but I didn't particularly view what I did as helpful, but I took the compliment anyway. I guess that's what happens when you live your life like an outsider looking in. You really don't know what's true, what's false, what's real, and what's a misunderstanding. Sorry about that

That's okay, Joe. Thanks for sharing with us

An interesting thing to note about this is that I was quite surprised when Joe, and some others like him, ended up being INFPs. INFP is yet another type that has been grossly misrepresented in the typing community from the days of Kiersey and Grant on. Joe, however did fit the description of INFP in Gifts Differing, and also fit a lot of descriptors that Jung function bloggers Akhromant and Rin-entropy mention for INFPs, and based off of that, I have to say Marston (DISC) and Jung (functions) called this one right.

Additional typologies I've been able to do since:

Big 5: high on O,A,N. Low on C and E (RLUAI)

Enneagram: 5w6, sx/so, 592

Additudinal Psyche: VELF

Greek Temperament Blend: Phlegmatic/Sanguine
