True Personality Typing

@contentgreenearth

Having trouble typing yourself or others? You've come to the right place I use Jungian typology (SOJT) and DISC to help people find their MBTI type MBTI is too messed up

TRUE TYPES POST #50: SANDRA

DISC: I/S profile; result I/C (S); slot 128 (even though this result is technically an I/C result, the I/S profile description is more fitting

SOJT type: Se-f (short primary/long secondary, D<A auxiliary appears to be the dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: ESFJ

What were you like in high school?

I was kind of well liked, and I was really into visual and performing arts

What is your greatest fear? What do you do to address it?

My greatest fear is to be abandoned by everyone and completely left alone. I think taking some time to just be by myself has helped a little

Was there a time in your life where you felt you hit rock bottom? What was the situation behind it?

I think it was when I realized I had to do what I felt was my calling in life, even if it didn't match what everyone thought was cool and popular

Where would you put yourself on the social spectrum, and why?

Extrovert , for sure

What are some things that really bother you?

I would say not getting to express myself, and not getting to be social

What, would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I am known for love, compassion, kindness and cheerfulness

What, would you say, are your biggest weaknesses?

Gossip, for sure. I'd say also being too trusting

When you switch your attitude between introverted and extroverted, or vise versa, what are you like?

When I'm more introverted, I kind of shut down, and think negative things about myself

What was the hardest thing you ever had to do? Why was it so hard?

I already mentioned it was doing my own thing. I always want to do the popular thing, but that's not necessarily the *right* thing

What are you like when you're sad?

I get by myself, and deal with it in private

How masculine/feminine do you feel in relation to others of your gender?

I feel average

Here's 4 focuses you can have in life: tasks, people, objects and ideas. Which one would be your primary focus and why? Which one would be your secondary focus and why?

I would say people first. Obviously they have the most to do with my thoughts and decisions. I would say objects second, because I'm better with tangible things than intangible things, particularly food

What do you do to have fun?

I like to go with my friends or family to an artistic showcase or performance, because I'm all about visual and performing arts appreciation

What was the nicest thing you ever did for someone, and why did you do it?

I am doing nice things for people all the time, so I really can't single out one thing as "the nicest". As far as why I do nice things, it's because my compassion for others compells me to.

Thanks, Sandra, for sharing with us

Additional typologies I've been able to do since:

Big 5: low O and N, high E and A, 50/50 C (SLxAN)

TYPING IN PRACTICE # 11: THE SUPREMES

I said I was going to type a bunch of Detroit area "hometown heroes " I had, growing up in Metro Detroit. I've typed Eminem. I'm in his generation, so for me , he didn't really fit the "hometown heroes " category, although he does for many people of younger generations. However, the Supremes really were "hometown heroes" for me, in every sense of the word. And the Supremes were pretty much over by the time I was born, and when I moved up to the Detroit area, they were totally a thing of the past. Yet the fact that Diane (Diana) Ross, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson all grew up in poverty, yet went on to become one of the greatest female singing groups of all time made them "local legends" and "hometown heroes", and with that , my education into the Supremes began.

I got so caught up in the Supremes, from that education, I auditioned for a Motown cover band to sing Supremes songs. I also have an "Essential" Supremes collection released in the mid to late 2000s, when a music distributor released the "Essential" series. I even went so far as to voice type them: Florence Ballard as a "Dugazon", a hybrid voice that has the high notes of a soprano, but the low notes of a mezzo soprano; and Diane and Mary were both mezzo sopranos with different tone quality. But I never personality typed them until now.

The resources I used for the personality typings were: "Where Did Our Love Go?: the Rise and Fall of The Motown Sound" by Nelson George, and "Dreamgirl: My Life As a Supreme " by Mary Wilson.

Step 1: identify everyone's DISC quadrant: Diane (Diana) Ross liked having authority, liked to take charge of situations, and was very determined and persistent. She clearly belongs in the D quadrant. I noticed Florence Ballard had enthusiasm, liked talking, was a promoter of people, was spontaneous, loved to have fun and liked being popular. Those things put her in the I quadrant. I noticed Mary Wilson was loyal, accommodating, sympathetic, nurturing and a peacemaker. I decided that was enough to put her in the S quadrant, yet it was not, as we shall later see. So far , for letters, we have: Diane: ET, Florence: EF, Mary, IF.

Step 2: at this early point, it was also clear that all 3 women had a conscious sensation function; because singing, dancing, performing and entertaining were all thematic in their lives. If not the overarching theme, objects was at least the incidental theme for all 3 women. So we know, none of them was an intuitive. We have only sensors present. So far for the letters, we have Diane: EST, Florence: ESF, Mary: ISF

Step 3: figure out the overarching themes. Diane's was pretty easy to see: it was power, fame, sucees, money, etc. These are all themes for ETs as either overarching or incidental. However, since these are overarching themes, we know that Te is not only conscious but in first place for Diane. Therefore, we have a type identification for one of the 3: Diane (Diana) Ross is an ESTJ. Now to move on to Mary and Florence

Step 4: I figured out the overarching theme for Mary, and it was people. So I initially typed Mary as ISFJ, but I realized if she really *were* an ISFJ, she would have probably had Diane angry at her, for "dropping the ball", more than Florence. And she would have picked up on Mary's sensitivity and dislike for change, and would have been seeing Mary as a hindrance to her dream. And, since that was not the story, I took a look at those S traits, and realized they were common secondary S traits (where S is above 50/50, but not the highest letter). As a result, I did an actual DISC assessment on Mary Wilson, and found her to be I=S, which is in Jungian typology, F-s preferring extroverted>introverted. This means that although Mary Wilson could sometimes resemble an ISFJ, more often than not, she functioned as an ESFJ. So now, we have a type identification for Mary Wilson as an imperfect, but we'll take it, ESFJ. Now on to Florence.

Step 5: Florence was definitely the hardest of the 3 to type. She suffered from depression her entire post adolescent life. But it was still clear that Florence's overarching theme was, in fact performing. That was her overarching theme, and people were just incidental. That led me to type her as ESFP, but confirming that Florence was, in fact an ESFP was a nightmare, because Florence was "depression". But the cool thing about DISC is, it is not mood related. I looked for S (Steadiness)traits in Florence, and found none. Also, what started Florence's depression was Diane and Berry Gordy (incidentally, I believe Berry Gordy is a High D as well as Diane) decreasing Florence's performance opportunities ( a real blow to an SP). When Florence's depression was so bad that she started losing interest in everything (except eating, sleeping, etc), Diane ultimately saw Florence as a stumbling block to her pursuing her own dream, and had Florence removed from the group. Florence was replaced, and the group went on. ESFPs would generally be able to take blows like that , and just wait in the wings for the ESTJ to leave the coop, much like ESFJ Mary Wilson was able to do. But because of Florence's undealt with emotional problems and trust issues she developed from being raped, she became more susceptible to spiraling into depression, when she felt like her performance opportunities were taken from her. Florence is a very sad example of what ESFPs are like when they don't take care of their mental and emotional health. Surprisingly, Florence did not commit suicide, but died from heart disease, at only 32.

So, there we have it. The 3 women who grew up in poverty in Detroit, and rising up to become one of the greatest female groups of all time, were:

Diane (Diana) Ross, an ESTJ

Florence Ballard, an ESFP, and

Mary Wilson, an ESFJ

TYPING IN PRACTICE POST # 10: MARSHALL MATHERS (EMINEM)

Marshall Mathers (Eminem) is the first of many Detroit area "hometown heroes" I'm going to look at in these "Typing In Practice" posts. He was a "white guy" who made it in rap, a "black artform". Disclaimer: a lot of people type his rap persona, which I would agree is some kind of High D (Dominance) ET type, but nobody ever actually tries to type Marshall Mathers, the true person behind the persona. I'm going to be bold, and actually type the person Marshall Mathers, and not the persona Eminem. Now let's go into how I actually typed him

Step 1: One day, several months ago, people on Reddit were talking about Eminem's MBTI type. There was one response I liked. It said: "8 Mile Eminem: ESTP, The Real Slim Shady: ISTP, Marshall Mathers: ISFP ". The reason I liked the comment was because I had read some articles about Eminem's relationship with his ex-wife and daughters, and he worked the relationships with a kind of submissive attitude. On top of that, I also noticed significant dominance traits (enough to be above 50/50) even in his true personality. Therefore, I figured he was probably S/D in DISC,and as we learned in Typing In Practice post #8, S/D in DISC is the home profile for the MBTI type ISFP. I thought I had this case cracked, and it would be as simple as determining Eminem's perceiving axis. Boy, though, was I wrong.

Step 2: I watched some Eminem interviews to type the perceiving axis , but instead made an interesting discovery! In all 3 videos, the main topic of conversation was people, people, people. And not just that , but talking about people in an interpersonal way. This was Eminem's primary focus, and it was Fe! 😯So much to my surprise, the real Marshall Mathers behind the persona is actually an Fe dom, and belongs in the I (Influencing) quadrant of DISC. He also had significant S (Steadiness) and D (Dominance) traits like I had said before. So at this point , we know the Real Marshall Mathers is in the I quadrant, and Fe is his dominant function, so letter-wise, we have ExFJ.

Step 3: In DISC, there are 2 adjacent slots on the wheel, Slot 46 I/D/S, and Slot 47 I/S/D, that have I, S, and D all above 50/50. However, both those slots have something in common. They're Fe with an undifferentiated auxiliary function. What is the difference? Slot 46 (which was Felipe's slot in True Types post #2) is Fe preferring N>S. Slot 47 is Fe preferring S>N So just like with Erik Thor in Typing In Practice post #7, I knew I would have to determine Eminem's most resonant MBTI, by determining the frequency of S vs . N

Step 4: The next step was to determine the frequency of S vs. N. I did this by writing out the MBTI facets on a piece of paper, and charting how many times sensation and intuition popped up in the videos. Instances were kind of hard to spot because the videos were so overwhelmed with feeling, since the real Marshall Mathers was Fe1, but they were there. Sensation won by about 5 tick marks in the sensation-intuition war.

Step 5: at this point we add S as the second letter to his type, and we have a type, folks.

In summary, the real Marshall Mathers (not the persona) is in Slot 47 on the DISC wheel, and his SOJT type is Fe, preferring S >N. He doesn't fit neatly into an MBTI type, but the MBTI type most resonant is ESFJ.

TRUE TYPES POST #35 : MIKE

DISC: I/S profile; result: I/S (D), slot 27* (this is the most typical version of I/S)

SOJT type: fully differentiated Fe-s

MBTI type most resonant: ESFJ * (this is the most typical version of ESFJ)

What were  you  like  in high school?

I was immature and loud. People are so thankful that I grew up 😆🤣😂

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is that I would lose my social status and all my friends. I try to overcome this fear by learning to love myself, but it's hard!

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

It was when my ex-wife Kathy and I got a divorce. I became a single dad to 2 sons, and I couldn't always be there for them, because I played for the symphony orchestra, and a lot of times, we went on tour. At those times, I had to leave my sons with other relatives.

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

Definitely extroverted. Why? It's obvious

What are some things that really bother you?

It really bothers me when people put limits on my social interactions

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm loving, compassionate, kind and cheerful

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I'm too trusting with people, and I gossip. Also, people think I'm loud and obnoxious-thankfully nowhere as much as when I was in high school

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm introverted, I feel like I'm a fake person, and I am not worthy of friends or social status

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever did was raise my 2 sons as a single dad, and not being able to be present in their lives as often as I would want to be. It was hard, because I really love my sons, and I wanted to be with them during their growing up years more often than I was able

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I'm usually alone until I'm ready to be with people, and then I need a friend or two to reassure me

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

Most people would say I'm kind of feminine in comparison to other men, but I don't really see myself that way. I see myself as average

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

People are definitely first in my life, considering that my whole life revolves around them. Second, I would say objects, because I like using them, and I'm good with practical things like handiwork and detail

What do you  do to have fun?

I like to hang out with friends and family! Of course! 😆🤣😂

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

The nicest thing I ever did goes like this: When Kathy and I got a divorce, she returned me the ring I gave her. Several years later, I still had the ring , and my younger son had a girlfriend he wanted to propose to. I gave him the ring. The reason was that he was disabled, and I knew he would never be able to buy a ring anytime soon. I had one, so I figured why not

Thanks for sharing, Mike. We appreciate it

TRUE TYPES POST #34: TOM

DISC: I/S profile, result: I=S (-), not on wheel

SOJT type: F-s (undifferentiated attitude leaning extroverted, D>A dominant serves as dominant)

MBTI type most resonant: ESFJ

What were  you  like  in high school?

I basically copied my older siblings, and was involved in whatever they were. I was not in the "in" crowd

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fears have happened. I don't think I'm afraid of anything anymore

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

No, I have never really felt that way. My life has been just improvements

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I'm usually extroverted, but sometimes I can be introverted. So I will go with ambivert

What are some things that really bother you?

It bothers me when people don't listen, and also when they want to restrict or limit my time with others

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm highly loving and compassionate. I have a good sense of humor. I'm cheerful

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I can trust people too much. I'm also too accommodating with people. I gossip a lot. I have to "keep up with the Jonses"

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

I think I do this pretty frequently. That's why I said to call me an ambivert. Both extrovert and introvert are part of me

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

There have been many times in my life, where I've had to adjust to new plans. I think that's hard for everyone. For me, my introverted side does not like change

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I don't think I've ever really been sad. I have been a little emotionally blank at times

People are definitely first. Whether I'm extroverted or introverted, that does not change. I'm guessing my second is objects. It's definitely not tasks or ideas

What do you  do to have fun?

I like to hang out and chill with my friends

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

Seeing that my brother's wife and children had everything they needed when he passed away. I did that because I love my brother and his family

TRUE TYPES POST # 12: MIGUEL P

DISC: I/S profile; result I/S (C), slot 28

SOJT type: Fe-s/Se-t (more than one type)

MBTI type most resonant: ESFJ. ESTP is also resonant, but clearly secondary

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, I was "popular " and "in". I was on 2 sports teams, even though I was legally blind, and also played the guitar and sang in a band even though I was legally blind

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is losing my social status. I haven't addressed it.

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

No. I don't think I've ever felt that way

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

Extrovert. All the way. No doubt I'm extroverted

What are some things that really bother you?

It really bothers me when people try to put limits on my social interactions. It also bothers me when people don't listen to what I have to say

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I am good at love, compassion, social skills, and I am highly cheerful too

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

A lot of people say I'm gullible. I don't know if I'd agree with that. But I'd say some other weaknesses of mine are gossip, and having to keep up with the Jonses

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

When I'm acting like an introvert, that's when I start questioning myself. Am I being authentic or fake? Am I being genuine with my motives or manipulative?

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I had to do was stop being jealous of those who were on the baseball team in high school. I had tried out, but didn't make it. At first, I was jealous. But I worked hard, and overcame it

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

When I'm sad, I cry, alone

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I feel average. I feel more feminine because of my personality, but more masculine, because I'm a big, muscular guy. So I guess that averages out to average.

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

Oh, people first, all the way. Then I would say objects

What do you  do to have fun?

I like to be active when I'm having fun, but I would also want to be with my family

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

I think it was the times I used to bring friends with me to church, and I helped many of them to find God. I haven't gone to church since I was 20 years old, though. I kind of miss that relationship I had with God. I still worship him a little bit, but it's not real worship, like it was back then. I need to go back to that again

TRUE TYPES POST # 2: FELIPE

DISC result: I/D profile , I/D=S, slot 46

SOJT type: Fe (undifferentiated auxiliary function)

MBTI type most resonating: ENFJ

What were  you  like  in high school?

In high school, I tried really hard to be popular and fit in. As a result, I ended up becoming addicted to drugs, and it nearly destroyed my life. I turned to them for acceptance, but I instead got myself in trouble

What is your  greatest  fear? What do you  do to address it?

My greatest fear is being left alone or being ignored. I address it, by actually spending some time alone, to know it's not all bad to be alone, and that way, I don't hurt as much when it happens

Was  there a time in your life where you felt you hit  rock bottom? What was the  situation  behind  it?

Yes, most definitely. It was when I lost everything in the midst of my drug addiction. At that point, I decided I needed to get my life back in order, and I did

Where  would  you  put yourself  on the social spectrum, and why?

I would consider myself to be an extrovert. I love to talk with people, and I'm certainly not afraid to do it

What are some things that really bother you?

I really don't like talking about my past, although many people have told me it inspires them. I just can't see how something like being addicted to drugs and losing everything, then coming to my senses and returning back to a good point again, can be so inspiring. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I also am bothered by my sister's death. She was murdered a few years back. I was already starting to get my life back together at that point, but it made me feel all the more pressured to do something good and positive with my life, since I was the only other child my parents had. I also miss my sister a lot, and there's an empty spot in my life that she once filled. It's so hard to mourn the loss of someone that close to you

What,  would you say, are your biggest strengths?

I'm very loving and kind. I've also been able to bounce back from that time in life where I hit rock bottom. And people, for some reason, find my story inspiring

What,  would you say,  are your  biggest  weaknesses?

I think my biggest weaknesses are people-pleasing and a need to be accepted socially. I've learned a lot over the past several years, and grown in those areas. Another weakness is being ashamed of my past. I just need to move on, and let go

When  you  switch  your  attitude between  introverted  and  extroverted,  or vise versa,  what are  you  like?

I don't know. I don't think I've ever done that

What was the hardest  thing  you  ever had  to  do? Why was  it  so  hard?

The hardest thing I ever had to do was seek help for my drug addiction. I'm more of an independent guy, so admitting I needed help was hard

What are you  like  when  you're  sad?

I cry like a baby, and usually do it in private

How masculine/feminine  do  you  feel  in relation  to others  of your  gender?

I'm kind of on the effeminate side. I'm soft-hearted, and freely express my emotions. But I'm straight, married, and have children

Here's  4 focuses  you can have in  life: tasks, people,  objects and ideas.  Which one would  be  your  primary focus and why? Which one  would be your  secondary  focus  and why?

I'd say my first focus is definitely people. I have a very strong people orientation. Then, I would say, for a second one, I would have to pick ideas. I'm a comedian, and I'm constantly coming up with new ideas and new concepts for my skits, but I would definitely say people are always first

What do you  do to have fun?

I think it's fun when me and my family get to travel to some exotic place together, and we get to hang out and relax. No work for a bit, just play. Gotta live it

What was  the  nicest thing you ever  did  for  someone,  and why did  you  do  it?

The nicest thing I ever did was comfort a friend, who had just found out that he was an orphan. He kind of rejected my comfort, because he was so messed up, but I continued to persistently comfort him, anyway. Later on, he looked back at the situation, and changed his mind about the comfort I showed him at that time. He named his first born son Felipe after me, in order to show his appreciation

Thanks, Felipe, for sharing with us
