Macabre isn’t the only one I know who experienced being taken over by an Archdemon. Turns out Vex did, too. He was working with Marduk to take over a realm out of sheer boredom, but when Marduk attempted to take direct control of Vex when things weren’t going their way, he broke a deal he made with him. This convinced Vex to fight back against Marduk, and with the aid of the local mortals, successfully defeated him.

Vex ended up properly defecting once things were cleared up, but the experience stuck with him. We were being shown what the Champion, Lady Eira, could do with her mastery over water in all forms. She at one point began to levitate us by gently pulling at our very blood. It was actually really cool, but Vex was close to reacting violently. Macabre wasn’t fond of the feeling, either, but he quickly calmed Vex down. Eira had no idea of knowing how Vex would react, and frankly, neither did the rest of us. I’m just glad it was stopped before anything actually happened.

Vex is definitely one of the weirder Infernals we’ve befriended. There’s a world Macabre and I like to hang around in, even befriending some of the local mortals. During a time we had to be away, an attempted invasion occurred. Some of our friends were captured, but the local guardian demigod was able to bring the remaining friends to ward off the invasion.

Said invader was the Infernal, Marduk, who was previously sealed by Lucifer himself for being such a loose cannon. He’s also Macabre’s uncle.

Marduk was using this to show that he’d be a better leader than Lucifer, and recruited Vex, who was simply wandering the realm. Those captured were eventually freed one by one, despite Marduk’s and Vex’s best efforts. Eventually Marduk took possession of Vex to gain an advantage, which ultimately didn’t work. Vex, however, joined the mortals, as he hated being betrayed by Marduk like that, and proved to be an invaluable ally. When asked why he joined Marduk in the first place, he answered that it was nothing personal, he was simply bored.

Once the dust settled, Vex was about to continue his wandering, but was offered a place in Heaven for his help. He was initially wary of the offer, but eventually took it, as he said that it would be nice to be somewhere where someone appreciated him. He recently even started a relationship with the Haunt, Harriet, and is looking for a way to save her from her curse.

He’s pretty chummy with Macabre, likely because he feels a certain kinship with him over a desire for something better than Hell, even if Macabre was a noble and Vex was considered lowly muscle.

Speaking of muscle, turns out Vex is unbelievably strong, despite his appearance. The Torc he wears is enchanted to limit his strength. It’s scary how much power he can pack even with it on. When he becomes Unbound by taking it off, however, he can match some of the strongest Infernals. It’s not something he does often, but it proves invaluable when he needs to keep Harriet from answering a summons.
