Hello, crab fans. Wow, you have been having a busy time! On July 29, also known as Crabs Day, you took to TumblrMart to give the gift of crabs to your pals. And boy, did we notice—not just all the great crab memes and trending posts on the day but also the burst in sales which made up a substantial financial boost to the running costs at Tumblr. And it truly took our breath away.

We got so excited we went back to the drawing board and designed some crab checkmarks, which we teased by dressing your regular checkmarks up as crabs on the day. On August 1, we launched a regular little crab checkmark and a rainbow crab checkmark for gifting and treating yourselves.

Here are some stats from Crabs Day:

  • You gifted 8k crabs that day. That’s an almost 20k% increase in crab sales.
  • We saw a more than 7k% increase in total Tumblrmart sales.

All this money goes straight back into running costs—such as a month’s worth of power costs for Tumblr application servers. That’s all you! You’re doing that! You’re keeping Tumblr around with your generosity toward your friends. Crabs be thanking ye ❤

Hello, Tumblr. This is a badges update.

You may have noticed that we’ve launched a set of badges you can earn for your blogs through your actions on Tumblr—like the Top Poster Club, the Blazer, and the Generous Citizen. You’ll automatically earn (and be able to choose to display) these badges. If you’ve earned a badge, you’ll see it bubble up in the lower left corner of your dash:

You can now also display different purchased and earned badges in one row next to your blog name, in whatever order you like. Pick which order you like them in. Mix and match with your checkmarks. Or wear all your bling at once. Your call!

Here’s what that looks like:

And here’s how it works:

  • To manage your badges on web, click the account icon, select a blog from the drop-down, and click “Blog Settings” from the menu. Click on the little pencil under your blog name to add, edit, or hide badges and checkmarks.
  • On mobile, head to your blog, click on the little paint palette in the top right corner, and you’ll see the little pencil icon under your blog name. Click on the little pencil under your blog name to add, edit, or hide badges and checkmarks.
  • Watch as they magically appear next to your username on the dash and your blog view.
  • You can always choose not to show any badges—simply unselect them in the very same “Badges” view in your settings.
  • It’s worth noting that some of the badges you can earn will only work on your primary, like the Generous Citizen, because you can only gift from your primary.
  • To purchase a badge, head to the Tumblrmart icon and select “Badges” from the menu at the top.

There you go. Now everyone can see who you are on Tumblr! At a glance! Nifty.

No one panic. The crabs are back. They're helping us launch TumblrMart on web today, and will be bringing TumblrMart to Android and iOS very soon. You're welcome.

What’s TumblrMart?

TumblrMart is your new storefront for gifting joy to your friends on Tumblr. We’re launching the mart with the ability to gift Ad-Free Browsing and this April Fools’ infamous “Summon Crab!” button, with more features to be added in the future.

You can now give someone the gift of:

  • 24 hours’ worth of crustacean chaos ($2.99),
  • a month of Ad-Free Browsing ($4.99), or
  • a year of Ad-Free Browsing ($39.99).

You can include a little note with your present or even give anonymously—like the benevolent bestower you know you are.

How?

  1. Find the blog you wish to gift, OR select it from the storefront during checkout.
  2. You will see a small gift icon on their blog header. Click it.
  3. A small menu will appear with potential prezzies. Choose one.
  4. Enter your payment details, and hit “Pay now.”
  5. The lucky user receives their present.
  6. Celebrate. You just made someone’s dash more fun! Clack.

What else do you need to know?

  • TumblrMart is not the same thing as our Tumblr Shop…
  • You currently cannot buy items for yourself on TumblrMart. This is for gifting to other users only
  • Gifted Ad-Free Browsing will begin automatically for the recipient, but users must activate their crabs by clicking or tapping the “Summon Crab!” button that will become visible to them at the top of their dashboard.
  • TumblrMart is available globally from today on web. A mobile release will launch soon, which means mobile users will, at long last, be able to join in with the crab infestation. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Anxious about online payment security? Check out this handy graph for total peace of mind. If you have questions, drop us a line on @wip or Support, or keep an eye out for more on @changes.

TumblrMart is out on iOS and Android as of today! This link will take you there directly. This means you can now give the gift of crabs (or Ad-Free Browsing) on the go. The recipient of your gift can enjoy their crabs (or Ad-Free Browsing) on the go. It's all coming up crabs (and Ad-Free Browsing).
