Where to Find Quality Ride On Brush Cutters for Sale?

Ride on brush cutters are a fairly specialist piece of equipment, which means that you cannot simply nip down to your local garden centre and pick one up. But if you have a large area of moderately wild grassland or similar vegetation to take care of a Ride On Brushcutter is also an incredibly useful piece of equipment, so being able to find one can make your landscaping life considerably easier.

The first thing to remember is that while brush cutters are superficially similar to mowers they are a distinctly different piece of equipment. Mowers are designed for mowing grass lawn areas and to deliver a manicured appearance. For user comfort they tend to have a reasonably high centre of gravity and all parts are optimised for grass.

A brush cutter will certainly cut a lawn, but as equipment goes a brush cutter is much less polite than a mower. Capable of cutting down not just grass but shrubs, weeds, saplings and pretty much anything else that gets in the way. Brush cutters are significantly more robust than your average mower, capable of tacking on even the toughest scrub and roughest ground.

Because of this a ride on brush cutter will have a lower centre of gravity for greater stability, which generally offers a less sedate ride than a mower but also feels significantly more solid. Because they have been built to take on a wider and rougher range of vegetation a ride on brush cutter will also tend to offer a broader range of cutting heights and be generally more robust in every area – in car terms if a ride on mower is a Bently Sedan a ride on brush cutter is a Land Rover Defender. You need to find a seller who appreciates that difference. The specialist nature of a ride on brush cutter means that it is a good idea to find a reputable and experienced supplier who can help you to understand the kind of landscape you will be using your brush cutter and so understand exactly what the demands of that landscape will make on your machine. Even if you have a great deal of groundskeeping experience and are fairly certain that you know exactly what you need it is always useful to have another experienced person to help you make sure that you really have considered everything.

The question then, is where to find such a supplier. A Ride On Brushcutter is a fairly major investment – indeed it is likely to be one of the more expensive pieces of equipment that you ever buy so you need to be certain that you will not only get a machine that can do everything you need it to do, but also that it has been built to a high standard that will guarantee many years of effective service.

You should also be looking for a machine that will be easy to maintain – keeping things in good working order should not be a chore, and a good supplier will be able to talk you through the various maintenance implications of the way a particular ride on brush cutter is designed. You might be lucky and have a local equipment supplier who fits this bill but the chances are that you do not have anyone in your local area.

Fortunately the internet means  that you can define “local” as “anywhere within the click of a mouse”. There are a number of online sellers who can help, and since you are already reading this you have already found one of the best places to find ride on brush cutters for sale. Take a look at our ride on brush cutter range and find out how we can help you!

What are the key features to look for when choosing a mower for steep banks?

In theory at least, any mower that is used to mow a steep bank is a steep bank mower. But anyone who has tried to mow a steep bank with a regular mower will know that steep banks are not only awkward, they can be dangerous to tackle with a regular machine. Mowers for steep banks need to be designed to accommodate the specific challenges they face so there are a number of features to consider.

Power source

Electricsteep bank mowers will be lighter and easier to manoeuvre, which makes them useful on smaller slopes but the need to be plugged in limits their range. Petrol operated steep bank mowers will offer more power and be able to tackle more heavy duty jobs but will be heavier and more difficult to handle. A cordless, battery powered mower offers a good compromise but may not have the endurance you need for larger jobs so consider carefully exactly the type of work your machine will be used for.

Weight and ease of movement

As a general rule of thumb lighter is better when working on a slope, although total weight is perhaps less important than the weight distribution which should be as even as possible, and the centre of gravity, which should be as low as possible. Good weight distribution and a low centre of gravity will help to improve manoeuvrability and make the mowing both easier and safer.

Cutting width and height

A wider cutting width aids stability and allows you to cover more ground in a single pass, which will in turn save you time. The ability to adjust the cutting height allows you to adapt to different grass lengths and slope conditions – if you are likely to be working in wilder conditions a relatively high maximum height is desirable.

Self propelled or not?

Ideally mowers for steep banks will be self propelled. This not only reduces effort but allows the operator to concentrate on maintaining their balance while working on a slope. In an ideal world steep bank mowers would be remotely controlled as well as self propelling so that the operator is able to stay well clear of any potential hazards.

Ground Clearance

Any mower needs to have good and adjustable ground clearance, but this is particularly important if the mower is to be used on slopes or rough ground. Insufficient clearance may lead to the mower blades striking the ground to the detriment of both.

Wheels or tracks?

Wheels are less complicated and easier to control than tracks. However mowers for steep banks will benefit from the increased traction and more even weight distribution that are offered by tracks, so this is a feature you will need to consider carefully.

Will it mulch?

A bank mower that is able to mulch the clippings is incredibly useful. Not only does it minimize the amount of clear up that is needed, it also helps to maintain the health of the vegetation by returning nutrition to the soil. This further not only reduces the amount of maintenance that the bank requires it also reduces inputs such as fertilizers which is cost effective and reduces environmental impact.

Safety features

Safety is always paramount and mowing at an angle is inherently more dangerous than mowing a flat lawn so be sure check your chosen bank mower’s safety features. Blade guards are required, as are emergency cut off switches. For real safety assurance remote operation is to be preferred.

Check out our range of mowers for steep banks and find the machine that will make sure that you never have a hill that is too steep to climb.

Why Do I Need a Scarifier and How Do I Use One?

Scarifiers for lawns are an invaluable tool for maintaining the health of your lawn without having to engage in a lot of back-breaking work with a rake. Essentially a Grass Scarifier  is a machine that looks a little bit like a lawn mower, but instead of blades for cutting the grass it sports rows of little teeth that are designed to remove the “thatch”, that fine layer of old grass stems, dead moss and other assorted debris that accumulates in a lawn over time.

Thatch is detrimental to the health of a lawn because it crates a barrier which prevents good penetration of water and nutrients into the soil as well as weakening the ability of grass to build a good, strong root system. If left to its own devices this layer of thatch will begin to choke the grass turning your lawn into a mess of moss and weeds.

“Scarifying” is the name given to the raking action that removes all of this accumulated debris. This promotes lawn health by allowing water and nutrients easy access to the soil and taking away the environment in which lawn weeds thrive so that you have to spend less time on weeding. Regular scarifying also helps to aetate the soil which again promotes healthy soil and so delivers a healthier lawn.

You can, of course, scarify your lawn without using a lawn scarifying machine. All you need is a good spring tined rake, a couple of free afternoons and the upper body strength of a gorilla – anyone who has used a rake to scarify a lawn bigger than a postage stamp will tell you that mechanisation is definitely the way to go.

Which scarifier is right for you will depend largely on your lawncare needs, but there are some features that you might want to look for. First of all, remember that this is a labour and time saving device so a self propelled machine such as the Eliet E450 is a good investment. This removes the need to wrestle a heavy machine around a lawn using brute force – a self propelled machine really does do all of the work for you.

Having the scarifying blades rotate in the opposite direction to the drive roller, as they do in the E450 model is also a good feature. This enhances performance while maintaining a steady, well controlled speed. Our team is always happy to give you advice so that you can choose the right scarifier to meet your needs.

Once you have selected the right scarifier for your lawn, how should you put it to best use? First of all, before using your scarifier you should give the lawn a really good, short cut. If the grass is very short it is easier for the scarifier to get down into the base of the lawn to remove thatch effectively and properly aerate the soil. Wait for a dry day before you do this or you will end up with soggy clumps of grass and debris clogging up both your mower blades and your scarifier.

When you start the actual scarifying process, start your machine on a high setting and go over the whole of the lawn a couple of times. Be systematic to make sure that you do not miss anywhere and make each run over the lawn at a different angle. Keep repeating for several passes, lowering the setting of the scarifying blades with each pass. You might find that this proves reveals some bare patches in the lawn, so once the scarifying is done it can be a good idea to sow some grass seed, particularly if you have done your scarifying at the start of the growing season. With a scarifier you can get that perfect lawn without the back breaking work, so take a look at our amazing range today!

What Type of Lawn Mower Works Best for a Sloping Garden?

Your garden may not always have that flat surface – it could be a sloppy one. Still, you should keep it in top shape at all times – that way, you can enjoy strolling and even sitting in your space. So, what is the best type of Lawn Mower for Steep Slopes? Here are the characteristics to look at:

A Lawn Mower with a Sturdy Construction

Your slopping garden is classified among the difficult terrains. Still, you want to ensure this space is in perfect shape. A weak mower can easily tip over and become damaged in the process of manoeuvring such a space. So, you require a mower with a sturdy construction for this space.

The first aspect of sturdy construction is that the lawn mower must be made from top-quality materials. Its components like cutting blades, wheels, and handles must be in excellent shape. That way, this mower can withstand the rigours associated with navigating the sloping garden. While at it, the mower can serve you for a long time without malfunctioning.

The sturdy construction also helps in keeping the mower stable as you navigate it through the terrain. For instance, the mower doesn’t wobble. That means the mower can quickly and efficiently create the lawn of your dreams. Also, the safety of the operator is assured.

At PSD Groundscare, we have top-quality mowers – strong and stable. For example, the Stella URS 100 – remote-controlled hydraulic Brushcutter has robust parts including an axial piston pump and hydraulic hoses ensuring the mower can navigate any terrain. Still, you’re sure of a mower that can serve you for a long time.

A Lawnmower That Is Safe to Use

Your safety is a critical factor when you’re maintaining your lawn. Remember you’re going to work on a sloping garden. With such a landscape, it is easy to slip and fall. In the process, you injure yourself and damage the mower.

A low centre of gravity is one of the features that make lawnmowers safe to operate. A lawn mower with a low centre of gravity is stable. So, it can’t tip over when navigating the sloping garden during those lawn maintenance sessions. The permanent four-wheel drive feature is designed to provide excellent traction. Regardless of the steepness of your landscape, you can safely and comfortably manoeuvre even with that ride-on mower if it has stability features.

Still, you can opt for remote-controlled lawnmowers. With them, you don’t need to be in physical contact with your mower – just like the name suggests, you can control the mower remotely. That means you won’t slip in that sloppy garden. The mowers are also designed to navigate the tightest of spaces and the steepest of slopes. At PSD Groundscare, we have different types of remote-controlled mowers for you including:

  • Stella URS 85 Remote Control Mower
  • Stella URS 100 – remote-controlled hydraulic Brushcutter
  • Taurus Remote Control 23hp Power Unit

Go for an Efficient Mower

Your slopping garden must be in top shape at all times. So, you should choose a mower that can deal with the type of grass in this space. For example, it should be possible for you to set a cutting height you’re comfortable with. Besides, you should dictate the machine’s cutting speed – you don’t want to spend the whole day taking care of the lawn. You have other issues to attend to.

Choose the Best Mower for Your Slopping Garden

Maintain that slopping garden in perfect shape at all times. Pick a study and efficient Lawn Mower For Sloping Garden. The mower should also be safe and easy to use. At PSD Groundscare, we can take care of all your lawn maintenance needs – we have top-quality mowers!

How Electric Compact Tractors Are Changing Farming?

The advancement in technology is driving innovation in many sectors of the economy – the agricultural sector isn’t an exception. An innovation that’s now the talk of this industry is Electric Compact Tractor. How are these tractors changing farming and the whole agricultural landscape? Here are the top benefits of these tractors that you should know about:

Environment-Friendly Agriculture

Climate change is a serious global concern. The agricultural sector contributes to this problem.  For instance, traditional tractors are run on fossil fuels. Burning these fuels releases toxic substances including nitrogen oxide and other carbon emissions that are harmful to the environment – they come with serious negative effects including:

  • Cause respiratory complications
  • Deplete the ozone layer which contributes to global warming
  • Cause acid rain
  • Damage surrounding vegetation

Electric compact tractors are here to reduce the problem of environmental degradation in agriculture. These tractors are powered by electric currents.  So, they reduce the carbon footprint from farming activities. Consequently, the air quality in the areas that use these tractors improves – health issues including respiratory problems and cardiovascular complications are reduced.

The Tractors Reduce Operational Costs in Agriculture

Farming is a business like any other. Net returns equal the revenue you generate minus your operational costs.  With traditional tractors, you have many expenses to take care of – the initial cost of purchase, fuel cost, and maintenance expenses. Overall, you’ll realise you spend a lot on farming expenses when you operate traditional tractors.

With the electric tractors, the cost of operation in farming is greatly reduced. For example, you save on energy costs. Generally, the cost of electricity is usually lower than that of fuel. So, you end up spending less as you keep your tractor up and running.

Moreover, the maintenance costs of these tractors are lower. It’s because these tractors don’t have as complex parts as their fuel-powered counterparts. The tractors don’t have pistons, valves, and fuel injectors which usually come with huge maintenance costs. That means you can have a tractor that’s in perfect shape for a long time. You can continue with your farming activities for a long time without interruptions as a result of malfunctioning tractor parts – that improves your farming productivity.

Provides More Comfort to the Operator

Fuel-powered tractors are known to produce a lot of noise in the course of their operation. This noise causes discomfort to the operator and those in the surroundings. For instance, the operator can experience hearing impairment after operating such a tractor for a long time.

Electrical tractors save the operators and those around from the noise. These tractors don’t have a fuel combustion process like their traditional counterparts. The quieter operation means comfort for the operator and those around the tractor. So, those in the farmland can easily communicate even when the tractor is in operation.

The Tractors Improve Productivity

An efficient tractor is an important part of farming activities – electric tractors deliver. For example, an electric tractor model like the Knegt 45hp electric tractor from PSD Groundscare has high torque. So, it can manoeuvre those sloppy terrains and pull heavy loads while remaining stable. Apart from improving productivity, that characteristic also enhances the safety of the tractor operator.

Moreover, these tractors have generative braking systems. In simple terms, the energy produced during the braking process is converted to electric current which is stored in the tractor’s battery. These tractors are energy-efficient.

Electric Tractors Are Good for Farming

These tractors are becoming the best innovations in the agricultural sector. They are friendly to the environment and lower operational costs in farming. Also, they are comfortable and energy efficient. Whether you require a top-quality electric tractor or Flail Mowers for Sale, they are available at PSD Groundscare – Just place your order!

New Innovations in Bank Mowers: What's on the Market?

Generally speaking the lawn mower is a fairly mature piece of equipment. The last big innovation was probably the introduction of the hover mower more than forty years ago. But the vast majority of mowers all seem to operate on the assumption that the grass they will be mowing will be relatively flat, and this is not always the case.

If you have to maintain grass or similar vegetation on anything more than a gentle slope this can be a problem. Of course there is limited demand for Mowers For Steep Banks, but if you happen to have a steep bank that needs mowing you will be wondering what kinds of specialised mowers are available because your regular mower really will not be up to the job.

A Bank Mower needs to be able to cope with operating safely on an incline – we are after all talking about a machine which has a very sharp spinning blade and the consequences of its operator losing control can be very serious. But it also needs to be able to deal with pretty tough undergrowth because by their very nature steep banks will often not get mown frequently, allowing not just grass but other, more woody stems time to grow.

Fortunately if you find yourself with a steep bank you need to keep in trim there are some recent innovations that can make your life significantly easier. We could start by looking at the innovations from EcoTech. Their TRT 60 is a great pedestrian mower specifically designed to cope with long grass and steep slopes.

Unlike a conventional mower it boasts two rear mounted thirteen inch pneumatic “tractor” style wheels, making it significantly more manoeuvrable and more controllable over rough ground than a conventional mower. This model also features “floating blades” which offer a more precise cut while being tough enough to handle not just grass but also general brush, brambles and even small saplings.

When you have a really steep bank to deal with, however the angle of the bank can make it difficult, or even dangerous to operate a mower manually - the risk of slipping and falling in close proximity to a spinning blade is simply too great. Until relatively recently that simply meant that the bank would just have to remain unmown. Recent advances in automation and remote operation however have led to some real innovation which has led to the development of bank mowers that can handle inclines that used to be too steep to tackle.

The remote controlled Stella URS 100 incorporates many of these innovations. Because it is controlled remotely the operator is kept away from any possibility of injury while the pendulum wing blades operate with equal efficiency whether the mower is moving forward or in reverse. This blade arrangement also turns the mown material into an effective mulch, avoiding the need to collect and dispose of clippings, which instead are deposited evenly across the bank.

The machine travels over the ground on a patented caterpillar track system which not only means  that it has good traction and can tackle the most challenging terrain, it will do so without the risk of causing wheel ruts or other damage as it goes. This also helps to create the URS 100’s ultra low centre of gravity which enables it to remain stable and manoeuvre on inclines as steep as 55 degrees.

Other innovations, such as the chain curtain which prevents potentially dangerous wood or stone chips being expelled by the blades, further enhance the user’s ability to operate the mower safely in the most demanding conditions. Now there is nowhere you cannot mow, so take a look at the newest machines and discover the future of landscaping.

Are Mulching Lawn Mowers Suitable for All Types of Lawns?

Mulching Lawn Mower looks very similar to a regular lawn mower but it differs in the it deals with the grass clippings it creates. A mulching mower does not leave grass clippings behind like a standard mower but has a specialized blade which finely chops grass clippings into very small pieces known as “mulch” which is then dispersed back onto your lawn during mowing. This virtually eliminates the need to dispose of grass clippings but has many other benefits too.

The grass clippings are left behind on the lawn and act as an organic fertilizer. This promotes the growth of new grass while also helping to keep your existing grass healthy. The fine layer of layer of clippings also helps your lawn to retain moisture and so resist drought, something that is becoming increasingly important as climate change makes intensely hot summers more common. All of this means that lawns that have been mulched tend to be denser and greener, and since it requires almost no effort, a mulching mower is the perfect, stress free way to a better lawn.

But is a mulching lawn mower suitable for your lawn? Can you really have a mower that eliminates the need to rake up clippings and will mean you never have to work out how to dispose of bag after bag of mown grass? In short, yes. Whatever the size of your lawn, there will be a mulching mower that is perfect for it.

If you are blessed to have a large lawn a Petrol Mulching Lawn Mower is probably the way to go. A petrol powered machine allows you to mow a large area easily and will have the endurance to do the job without the need to stop and refuel. Petrol machines can however be a little noisier than other models and of course as we continue to transition away from fossil fuel use people who have a smaller area to mow might want to consider other power sources.

If you prefer to mow electrically a cord-free battery powered mulching lawn mower. This offers most of the advantages of a petrol mulching  lawn mower, but without the noise or fossil fuels. A battery powered mower is still not limited by cable length, which means you can easily mow areas that are a long way from a socket, but they are a little limited in terms of endurance. If your lawn is very large you might have to mow half of it and then take a break for the batteries to re-charge before completing the job.

If you have a small lawn then a corded electric mulching mower would be the most cost effective choice. Most such machines are filled with a cord long enough to reach all the way across a small lawn, and of course if your mulching mower is plugged in it will run for as long as you need it to with no need for recharging or refuelling of any kind.

Whatever kind of power source you choose for your mulching mower, if you want to maintain your garden with minimal effort and promote lawn health there will be a model of mulching mower that is absolutely perfect for your lawn – however large or small it may be. They can do more for you than just make mowing the lawn easier too.

If you are tired of raking up leaves from your lawn every autumn you can just run your mulching mower over them. The same clever blade technology that turns your grass clippings into mulch will do the same with fallen leaves. Just another reason why mulching mowers are environmentally friendly, save time, and contribute to a lush, thriving lawn!
