Aelin was in the process of making herself look presentable, not that it really mattered because Rowan had already seen her at her worst. She cared enough about what he thought though and had spent the better part of ten minutes scrubbing the smudged makeup from her face. She stared at herself in the mirror, half expecting to see her brokenness reflected outward for the world to see. But a part of the red blotches on her face and neck from crying and the sad, hollow look dimming her gold and turquoise eyes, nothing was amiss. It was unfair she thought to herself, how perfect someone could appear to be when they were anything but.
