How Galadriel’s Golden Hair Tipped-Off Halbrand On Her Identity

“Galadriel of the Noldor. Daughter of the Golden House of Finarfin. Commander of the Northern Armies of High King Gil-Galad,” she announces in Numenor.

It seems that’s when Halbrand learned her full identity. But he would’ve realized it while still on the raft.

For Galadriel’s gold hair would’ve caught Halbrand’s attention and not only for it’s legendary beauty.

  • A gold-haired Elf is an unusual sight. Most Elves have dark brown hair. Some silver hair. Fewer have red. Her golden hair distinctly descends from her father, Finarfin. In fact, she and all three brothers were gold-haired too. Thus, the Golden House.
  • Sauron & the Golden House have history. In addition to Finrod, Sauron was involved in war campaigns targeting and killing Galadriel’s other brothers. Moreover, she’s the niece of Fëanor, great craftsman of the Silmaril jewels that Morgoth stole and killed her grandfather in the process. Galadriel eventually joined her uncle’s rebellion to fight Morgoth in Middle-Earth.
  • Damn right Sauron did his research on Morgoth’s enemies. He was a competent and well-organized lieutenant with spies everywhere. As the daughter of the Noldor King and a key leader in Fëanor’s rebellion, Sauron would’ve known of Galadriel. Possibly also the rumor that her hair inspired the Silmarils that led to the War of the Jewels.
