Where to find the hat sliders and how to use them?

This veil shows no hair, and therefore needs no slider.

SLIDER HOW-TO

Hats in Sims 4 are tricky. They are separate objects, and the game offers 3 options: to not show hair at all, or to use the games hat chops. Hat chops are done with the HAIRS not the hat, and there are only two kinds, flat hat chop or tilted forward. Oh, how I would like a third, tilted backward!

So, many hats and headpieces demand the use of hat sliders. There are two versions, for adult sims and for kids/toddlers.

I am now updating most of my hats with 2 versions - one with hat slider, and one without. The ones without either have the hair hidden or uses the hat chops. The ones WITH, also sometimes have hat chops, but not always.

USE SLIDER FOR ADULT

The slider for adult sims gives you these options: Front face: adjust height and width of hat/crown.

Up

Down

Result can differ between hats/headpieces - /for creators: I set value for head to 1, and the 2 earringbones to 0.5 each./

Right side:

Forward/back

Tilt

Left side:

Wider/or tighter

Kids sliders work the same, but you adjust height /width from the BACK

Note: to use the sliders, you need to be able to click on skin. If the skin is covered by hair or a veil or something, they wont work. If you want long hair and a tiara, use a short hair and adjust the headpiece, then change hair.

Also: the sliders setting is per SIM, not per HAT. If you change one hat, all other hats will be moved on the same sim.

The sliders can be glitchy. If you have problems with vanishing hats, try logging out, and delete thumbs cache, that sometimes help.

I made a special thumb for the hat slider version when available, so it is easier to find:

The small red arrows in the upper right corner tells you the headpiece is equipped with hat slider controls.

Happy simming!
