Six and ‘Kindness will be your undoing’

I saw a nifty little theory by @queen0fm0nsterz that is mainly about the meaning of the term ‘deep-six’ but at the end it mentions the possible meaning behind the Little Lost Things achievement description "Kindness will be your undoing": https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/queen0fm0nsterz/651175746947235840?source=share and I want to expand on the meaning behind that phrase for Six.

I’ve seen someone say that the phrase could be talking about Runaway Kid since he kindly offers Six a sausage but he gets eaten instead, it could be referring to him but I’m confident that it’s more aimed towards Six. Since it’s with Six that you get the achievement with that description and it requires Six to do something to get the achievement, not Runaway Kid, so I’m 100% sure that the achievement description is talking about Six, not Runaway Kid.

I first made this post as a comment on Reddit that ask why Six hugs Nomes, and here I’ve copy and pasted it below:

From what I think, the Nomes may remind Six of the two friends she's lost: RCG and Mono. The Nomes remind her of RCG because there are plenty of them in the Nest which is the same place where she lost RCG. And they remind her of Mono because of the Nome hat he can wear. And perhaps she hugs the Nomes as a way to grieve for Mono and RCG.

And for the description of the Little Lost Things achievement "Kindness will be your undoing", she tried to save RCG, she tried to be kind, but it ended up being for nothing since RCG dies anyway and it caused Six to develop Survivor's Guilt.

And then with Mono she risked her own life several times to help him (and Mono doing the same for Six of course) and he got her kidnapped by the Thin Man who took her to a place that tortured and distorted her (as evidence by the part where Mono tries to pull her out of a TV, she doesn't want to be in the Signal Tower and is clearly in distress), but when Mono later finds her distorted in the Signal Tower she shares her music box with him after he calls to her a couple of times. Mono's actions, intentional or not, ended up getting her into this state where she's been tortured and her body (and possibly mind too) has been distorted, but despite that she still tries to share her music box with him, another act of kindness. I've gone a bit more in-depth of how many volumes this simple gesture speaks on how much Six did care about Mono in my best explanation on why she drops him later, but despite what Mono's actions ended up doing to her she still tried to show him kindness, which also makes the notion that she never cared about him and was only using him much more bizarre. And well... we know what Mono ended up doing with the music box (not saying that Six dropping him is okay before people start claiming that)

Two acts of kindness from Six that she got punished for, and she possibly hugs the Nomes as to grieve for the two friends she's lost and tried to be kind to. And the act of hugging the Nomes itself is yet another act of kindness from Six. Note that you only get the achievement when you eat Nome RK after hugging the 12 other Nomes, not when you hug all 12 of them itself, you must then eat Nome RK to get the achievement, I'll get back on this shortly. The LN Twitter had already said "But when you know what the sausages are made of in The Maw, you can understand the choice." when someone mentioned that scene. So the reason why Six eats the Nome instead of the sausage is because she knows that the sausage was made of children.

I'm not saying that her eating the Nome was right but if you've just managed to escape from being cooked and eaten alive and extremely painful hunger hits you and your only choices are: starve to death, eat something that is pretty much a critter to you (yes we know that the Nomes were kids too, but Six doesn't know that) or knowingly commit cannibalism by eating something that could've been you had you been caught earlier, then what will you do? Six was in a lose-lose-lose situation.

Remember how I mentioned that you only get the achievement when you eat the Nome after hugging the 12 previous ones? Six hugged 12 critters that possibly remind her of her lost friends whom she tried to be kind to as well, only for her kindness to be punished in one way or another, and was just put in yet another situation where her kindness ended up backfiring because she just ate a critter (12 of which she hugged earlier) because she thought it was the least bad option of 3 bad options in that scenario. Six is punished for being kind yet again. And I think the description of the Little Lost Things achievement is her reminding herself of a harsh lesson she had to learn the hard way: Kindness will be your undoing.

Six didn't have to do these acts of kindness - she wanted to - only for it to end up hurting her. And this just adds to the tragedy of Six's story, which I’ve gone into more detail here (and included a link to a song which I think is perfect for that subject).
