The only light came from the street lights, the darkness crept through the sky as Billy and Stu waited in the bushes to the side of the Prescott home. The adrenaline was rushing through both of them, the waiting was becoming torture.

“Is it time yet man?” Stu hissed.

Billy ignored him as he continued to watch the windows, Maureen’s light still on, now they were left waiting for Cotton Weary to leave.

“Has Weary finished fucking that whore yet?” He spat.

“Ah… N–no.” Stu stammered.

“Then no fuck knuckle it’s not time yet.” Billy clenched his fist in anger.

----

The time slowly passed past, it wasn’t long until a drunk Cotton Weary came staggering out of the home to his car, disappearing into the darkness. They noticed Maureen’s bedroom light was now off, Billy slipped on a pair of gloves, and then he and Stu crept through the bushes and into the house. Thanks to Cotton, it wasn’t hard with the front door left unlocked. Fucking idiot Billy didn't know if he should be annoyed or thankful for it. They slowly made their way up the stairs and headed toward Maureen’s bedroom, knives by their sides. When they reached the top of the stairs, the creaking sound went through the house.

“Did you come back for your jacket?” Maureen drunkenly slurred her words.

They crept closer to her bedroom door, which was ajar. Billy’s breathing become more rapid the closer he got, his moment was finally here, holding his knife out high they kicked her door in, causing Maureen to jump, they watched as she staggered to stand.

“Oh, Billy… Stu? Sid-Sidney isn’t home.” He could smell the alcohol on her breath, It didn’t take long before she noticed their knives. Everything felt like it was happening in slow motion, her confused eyes watched their knives “Nooooo” her screams echoed through the empty house, she was frantic backing up into her bedside table, knocking a lamp over, breaking it. They bounced on her, Stu holding Maureen in place as Billy noticed the jacket, putting it on then coming in closer to Maureen, his voice cold and calm “This is for fucking my father.” without warning he raised his knife, sending it down into her chest, slicing through the muscle like butter, only stopping when it hit bone, pulling it out he watched as blood soaked through her white gown. Her voice was hoarse from screaming, her eyes filled with tears “Pl-please!” Maureen begged, even as her legs buckled, her falling weight down brought Stu down too, his grip was still tight keeping her arms pinned behind her back, Billy spat “YOU FUCKING WHORE!!!!” He continued to ignore her pleas “YOU FUCKING SLUT!!!” His actions became more animistic, consumed with hatred, bringing his knife down into her chest, raising the bloody blade again to bring it down into her groin, her muffled screams rang through his ears, his eyes glared into hers "beg." He demanded. "Please stop!" She choked out. Billy smiled, leaning back a little on his knees "Too little, Too late." He looked back to Stu then back to Maureen, raising the knife as far back as he could then sent it down with all his strength into her face, down again, again and again, until her screams become silent. He didn’t even notice Stu had his knife out, covered in blood When did he join in?

His heart was racing, he felt reborn bathed in her blood, no longer was he a boy. His wicked smirk grew as he eyed off the jacket.

“What’s ya do’n?” Stu huffed, nearly out of breath, pushing Maureen's limp body off of him, sending her to the floor, like trash.

“Might drop off a present for that fucking idiot.” He stared at the jacket more. “What?” His smirk turned into an evil glare as he got in close to Stu’s face “Do I have to spell it out for you?... Cotton’s bloody jacket found in his truck…” Stu's face lit up with amazement "Ohhh". Stu left the house first, and waited in the bushes on his cell, he watched Sidney leave Tatum’s car “Show time baby” He whispered into the phone. Billy waited near the back door as planned, after Tatum drove away, he walked out, head down low, allowing Sidney to catch a glimpse as she came through the little white fence.

=========

The town is in shock at how brutal Maureen was murdered, a small solace was that it didn’t take the police long at all to find her killer, three days had gone by, and everyone was surprised it was Cotton Weary, he was a few years older than the rest of you. You didn’t know what to think, you couldn't believe he could ever have been capable of rape and murder.

“Oh… It’s y/n right?” Mr Prescott asked, you noted the dark circles under his eyes.

“I was wondering if Sid was up for a short visit?” You asked suddenly unsure.

“Just a short one.” He seemed unsure too but allowed you inside.

You made you’re way upstairs, holding onto the small bag you brought alone, stopping at Sidney’s door, you quickly glanced at the crime scene tape, it sent shivers down your spine. Shaking it off you knock, only entering when you hear her say it’s ok.

“Hey, sorry I haven’t been in earlier… I honestly thought you would be overwhelmed with people stopping by.” You simply gave, standing in the doorway.

Sidney stayed seated on her bed, hugging her knees. “No, that’s alright… I haven’t really….” She trailed off trying to find the right words.

“Haven’t had the energy to deal with everyone?” You asked.

She looked a little surprised “Ye-yeah exactly… And they all ask the same thing…” She brushed her hair back in thought,

“If you’re ok…” You shook your head. “They mean well but it’s a stupid thing to ask.”

It was like she was seeing you for the first time “Yeah… You can sit if you’d like.” She pointed to her bed, you sat down next to her.

“It’s all anyone asked when my dad died, well that and they brought food.”

“So much food.” She managed a small laugh.

“I won’t stay long Sid, I know it’s the last thing you want, but I brought you this.” You handed her the small bag.

“What is it?”

“It’s nothing special, I just figured you might like to have a place to write down whatever.” You tried smiling back.

She nodded “Thanks.... I never asked you but how did your…” She trailed off.

“A truck hit him head-on.” The sad memory threatened to push through.

You both sat there in silence for a few minutes. “I–I know we’re not best friends Sid but I honestly get it or at least I sort of do. I’m here if you need anything or if you just feel like having company without having to talk or if you just want to be left alone.”

Sidney rubbed her eyes, holding onto your hand in a tight grip “Thank you y/n, I really mean that.”
