The Lockhart Ball, Pt 2 ― Late summer, 1811

Edward: One last dance, Charlotte? Charlotte: [a beat] Okay...

E: Charlotte, I've been thinking of what I wanted to say to you for days now.

[cont.] I regret a lot of things as of recent, but you were never one of them. I have enjoyed every moment with you this summer, and I deeply regret how I made you feel.

C: Edward... there is much for me to think about in the days to come. In truth, I do not know what I want for my life. I do not hold all of the answers. When I thought this visit to the country would be a time for me to get the clarity I was seeking, instead I just... confused myself ever further.

E: Charlotte I wish you happiness in whichever you do decide to do. You are one of my most cherished friends. I hope nothing will change that. C: Thank you Edward.
