Toji Fushiguro x Babysitter Reader

a continuation bc i wanted to write more about this story. i’m really in love with this toji :(

WORD COUNT: 6.4k

WARNING: protective toji, a bit of a breakdown from both reader & toji, mention of blood, soft toji, good son and father relationship, time skip, and just overall fluff.

After the awkward interaction in the parking lot with you and Toji, the two of you get close. And by close, I mean no longer inconvenience moments between you two.

You continue to buy groceries and clean the apartment every week. Toji notices and appreciates it as he pays you a bit more for the kind acts you do daily. You also notice how the single father arrives late at night from work and only eats and sleeps to repeat the same thing the next day.

Not only that, but he’s also thankful that you wait for him late at night and warm up the food for him when he gets home. Especially when the single father can see how tired you are, yet you still wait for him to arrive, despite how often he has told you not to.

But of course, you disagree as you tell him that you need to because Megumi can’t be alone at the apartment, which lets you know that he returned safely. Toji knows what you mean by returning home safely, as the two of you haven’t forgotten about the night he came home, all bruised up with blood.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

It was a Tuesday.

As he stumbled his way to the front door, being met with your wide eyes.

“Mr. Fushiguro…” you whisper, looking at the injured father who can barely stay on his feet.

You quickly ran to him, supporting him.

“Restroom,” Toji breathes out.

You nod your head, carefully leading him to the bathroom down the hall, not wanting to make much noise because Megumi’s room is the first one down the hall. And neither of y’all want him to wake up and see what’s happening. Toji sighs as y’all reach the bathroom. You turn on the lights, setting the injured man on the toilet seat.

“T-The first aid kit… is at the bottom drawer,” Toji manages to say, looking at you, who quickly examines.

You find the first aid kit and start to clean his wounds, making Toji hiss in pain from the alcohol touching his cuts.

“Sorry,” you softly whisper, making the single father look at you.

Toji can only stare at you, pulling you closer towards him, which has you in between his legs. The single father closes his eyes as you gently hold his face and blow soft air on his cuts before putting band-aids on. Toji opens his eyes, thinking you are done, but to his surprise, you kneel in front of him.

“W-What are you-” Toji stutters but stops when he sees you gently putting ointment on his bruised knuckles.

Oh.

Toji curses himself for thinking wrong, glancing over at you, who is now bandaging his knuckles.

“Okay, you are all set,” you say, looking at Toji. “Unless you have more injuries?” you ask.

Toji shakes his head, and you begin to put everything away. He watches how you clean blood evidence, taking the trash bag with you. You look over at Toji, who expects you to start asking him questions, but you don’t. You only stare at him, making the taller man stand up from the toilet seat and support himself on the sink.

The two of you keep looking at each other, not saying a single word. Until you drop the trash bag and hug him, taking Toji by surprise. It takes a few seconds before Toji hugs you back, closing his eyes and taking your scent in. You, on the other hand, hug him tighter. The two of you stay like that for a bit more until you start to let go, which makes Toji do the same. Neither of you says anything and just looks at one other before exiting the bathroom. That night you ended up staying over as you took care of Toji, who still needed help to move around.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

That day Toji started to develop feelings for you.

Not only that, but he also started to decline dangerous jobs in order not to worry you. He knows it means less money; sure, it was nice of you to heal his wounds. However, he doesn’t want it to be a daily thing for you to witness and take care of.

Therefore, the day he made that decision was the same day he told you what he did for a living. How he’s a well-known assassin and makes good money from it. He also told you about his past and how he was a former member of some clan.

Toji was waiting for you to throw him a disgusted look or quit right on the spot, but instead, you only smiled at him as you held his hand. You thank him for trusting you enough to share this information with you, but most of all, you reminded the single father how well he has done for his family. That was the first time Toji allowed himself to be vulnerable after such a long time. You remember how he hugged you tight as he cried on your shoulder. You spend the night as the single father kept hinting for you to stay. The two of you slept on the couch, Toji resting on you while you run your fingers through his hair.

Since then, you and Toji have become more affectionate with each other. Every night when he comes home from work, y’all have dinner together, which leads to you staying over as the two lay on the couch appreciating each other’s presence. Your relationship with Toji wasn’t the only change. Your whole daily routine changes, which isn’t bad because you enjoy it.

You start to stay over regularly and join them on short trips to the park or zoo when the single father doesn’t work. You enjoyed seeing Megumi laugh at your silly comments.

It makes you happy. They make you happy.

But you aren’t the only one that feels the same way because Toji also enjoys seeing his son and you giggling. He marks these precious memories in his head because moments like these never last for too long.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

It was Sunday when it happened.

He was at work getting ready for a simple job when he got a call from Shiu, telling him to go home as soon as possible.

“What do you mean to go home? I’m just about to start the operation,” Toji says through the phone.

“I’m serious!” Toji can hear Shiu yell through the phone. “They’re heading over there.”

Toji quickly understands whom Shiu is talking about, hanging up on the spot. He starts to call you, tapping his foot as it rings.

“Come on, Y/N. Pick up!” Toji shouts.

When he thinks you finally picked up, he groans as he hears the voicemail machine. This already alerts the taller man that something isn’t right.

He quickly gets in his car and drives to his place, not caring about the speed limit. Toji’s focus is only on getting home before they get there. He doesn’t even know how they found his address or the reason for the sudden visit, as he hasn’t had any contact with the Zenin clan in years. When he arrives at the apartment, Toji sees the door open, making his heart sink. He quickly enters, seeing the place is destroyed.

“Megumi! Y/N!” Toji screams, pushing his way through the mess.

However, he doesn’t get a response. It makes him panic as he opens every room, only for them to be empty. After not finding any sign of you or Megumi, he accepts that he is too late. Toji slides his back from the hallway wall, pulling his hair in frustration as he starts to think about the worst that could have happened to both of you. He’s about to call Shiu to take him directly to the Zenin but stops when he hears a noise.

Toji quickly gets up, thinking they return, but he soon hears the same noise coming down the hall. He slowly walks towards the noise, stopping in front of a giant poster on the wall hiding the small storage room behind him.

He hears someone talk and realizes it’s you.

“Please…leave,” he hears you whisper.

Toji quickly rips the poster, opening the storage room, revealing you shielding Megumi, who’s tightly hugging you.

“T-Toji…” You whisper, looking at the taller man in relief.

Toji notices that you’re bleeding from your forehead, upsetting him. Upon hearing his father’s name, Megumi looks up and runs toward him.

“I’m here, dumpling,” Toji says, picking up Megumi, who can only hug his father tightly. He can feel his son shake from fear, making the father rub his son’s back.

“You’re safe now,” Toji assures his son, who begins to cry silently.

You softly smile at the scene, wiping the blood from your forehead with the long-sleeve hem. Toji watches you, feeling his blood boil from seeing you hurt. Once Megumi has calmed down, Toji walks towards you. He offers you his free hand to help you get out of the storage room, which you accept.

“Thank you,” you smile at him, who’s still carrying Megumi.

You carefully exit the storage room, supporting yourself with Toji’s arm. Once you are out, you laugh, looking up at the taller man. Toji just stares at you, your hand still holding his. He pulls you towards him, making you stumble on your feet.

“I’m sorry for being late…” he breathes out, arm wrapped around your waist.

You let your emotions take over as you begin to cry as well. Toji notices how you are breathing rapidly, and your legs start to shake. He quickly reacts, making you sit on the floor with him. Megumi looks up from his father’s neck, looking at you worriedly. The little boy reaches for you, resulting in him and Toji hugging you, which calms you down. You let go of them, wiping your tears with your hands.

“Sorry,” you sniffle, giving both of them a small smile.

Suddenly, you feel a pair of lips on yours. It takes a while to understand what’s happening, but soon you do, as you realize that Toji is kissing you. You automatically close your eyes, kissing him back. Megumi looks away, hiding his face in his father’s neck.

Toji breaks the kiss, resting his forehead on yours. “I’m going to kill them for hurting you,” he breathes out as he glances over at the blood on your forehead.

“I’m okay, Toji,” you say, removing yourself to touch your cut. “It’s just a scratch.”

Toji watches you as you smile at him. The taller man frowns when he hears you hiss from pain when touching the cut too hard. Toji gently takes your hand, so you do not continue.

“I only got hurt because I fought back,” you tell him, surprising the single father.

Toji puts Megumi down, who sets himself between your legs, “Y/N protected me, Dad,” his son says.

You smile at Megumi, caressing his cheeks. “They were looking for you….” You begin to explain. “But soon took an interest in Megumi when they saw him.”

“T-Then things escalated,” you say, recalling how the three men tried to enter the apartment forcefully, which made you hit your head with the door.

Toji squeezes your hand, stopping you from explaining furthermore. “We need to leave now,” he says, standing up.

“Where to?” you ask, following as you pick up Megumi.

“To the countryside, where no one will harm my family,” Toji responded, turning to look at you, who looked taken back.

“I-I know, I’m asking too much, but we can’t stay here in the city,” Toji whispers.

He knows he’s being unfair in making you leave with them, but he can’t leave you behind. Toji waits for you to give him an answer but starts to assume from the silence that you don’t approve of his proposal.

“Y/N..” he calls for you, already accepting your decision, but you surprise him again.

“Okay,” you tell him. “Let’s go.”

Toji runs to you, kissing your lips. “T-There is a small suitcase in the storage room. Can you try your best to fill it up with the most necessary stuff?” he asks as you nod your head.

“Help her out, dumpling,” Toji tells his son, who’s in your arms.

Megumi throws him a thumbs-up, making you chuckle. Toji watches you put Megumi down, taking the suitcase out of the storage as you instruct Megumi to get his favorite clothes. Toji takes the chance that you are packing to call Shiu, thanking him and letting him know you and Megumi are okay.

“Shiu, once again, thank you for everything,” Toji says before hanging up and breaking his phone and yours.

Toji throws the leftover pieces in the trash, turns around, and sees you with Megumi in your arms while having the suitcase ready.

“Y/N… are you sure about this?” he asks. “I might be asking too much for you… and I don’t want you to feel forced,” he says.

Toji watches you walk up to him, taking his hand and kissing it. “I’m sure, big guy,” you softly say.

Toji interlocks your fingers, taking his free hand on the suitcase handle as he leads the way.

“You don’t want to stop by your place to pick up a few things?” Toji asks, looking over at you as y’all are waiting for the taxi to arrive.

You shake your head, “No,” you smile. “I packed a few pairs of clothes I had left for a few nights.”

Toji kisses your head, “I’m sorry for doing this to you.”

You give the taller man a gentle smile as you know that Toji is starting to feel guilty about you leaving with him, but honestly, it’s not like you have a lot of things here in the city. Toji sees you checking if Megumi is asleep, to which he nods.

“Toji… you already know that I don’t have family here,” you say. “So, it doesn’t hurt me to leave my things here because I know they can be replaced once we settle down.”

“But you and Megumi can’t be replaced,” you whisper, caressing Toji’s cheek.

Toji grabs your hand, squeezing it before he plants a gentle kiss.

You also can’t be replaced.

Toji wants to say to you, but the words don’t come out.

“Don’t feel guilty about this whole situation,“ you tell him.

“It’s hard not to..” Toji whispers, looking at you. “I’m sorry.”

You only shake your head as you let Toji rest his head on your free shoulder. Toji kisses your neck as you whisper sweet words to him.

I love you.

Toji closes his eyes, listening to your soft voice. The taxi arrives, taking the three of you to the train station. Once settling on the train, you cover Megumi with your jacket. You softly smile at Megumi’s peaceful face, making you realize he’s okay. Toji notices the way you keep looking at Megumi, tapping your shoulder.

“You okay?” he asks.

You nod, resting your head on Toji’s shoulder, allowing sleep to take over. He kisses your head, moving his arm behind your back so you can relax on his chest. Toji gently brushes your bangs, revealing a spiderman band-aid on your forehead, making him chuckle. He is sure that Megumi did it as the band-aid isn’t properly put on. The single father stares at the two sleeping figures, leading him to kiss you and Megumi on the head.

“I promise to protect and love you two properly,” Toji whispers, getting hum from you.

He smiles, resting his head in the window, hoping he will fulfill this promise.

And he does with time.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

After you guys arrive in the countryside, Toji quickly uses the saved-up money to buy a small farmhouse right on the spot. The three of you settle in fast as Megumi gets along with a few kids in the neighborhood. He also enjoys his new elementary school. You also noticed that Toji became good friends with one of the kid’s fathers. Jin Itadori, as the three of you, spend every weekend with the family.

Toji always introduces you as his woman at every neighbor’s gathering. This results in people assuming that you’re his wife and the mother of Megumi. Still, you always correct them by saying that you’re not either. You don’t mind clarifying each time because it doesn’t trouble you, but you can see that it does bother Toji.

He regrets asking you out the day you guys arrived in the countryside and not if you wanted to marry him. Don’t get him wrong, these three years with you have been the most amazing, but he believes you deserve more after doing so much for him and Megumi. He feels that he hasn’t fulfilled the promise he made to himself on the train. He wants you to feel how much he appreciates you. And the actions you have done for him and Megumi because Toji can see that deep down, it hurts you when a few neighbors comment on your relationship with him.

This is why he takes the step to propose to you, getting the help of Jin and his wife.

It’s an ordinary weekend with the Itadoris at your house this time. Everyone is outside in the backyard, watching Megumi, Yuuji, and their new friend Nobara, who you invited. You see Megumi running towards you, alerting you that something must have happened. You stand up from your chair, kneeling to be at eye level with him.

“What’s wrong, honey?” you ask, looking over at him for any injuries.

“I can’t find my white wolf,” Megumi pouts. “Baby, but I just saw you play with it a few minutes ago,” you say, brushing his bangs.

“But I can’t find it,” Megumi says, looking at you with sad eyes. “Well, it has to be here outside, so how about we look for it,” you say, extending your hand for him to take.

Megumi nods, holding your hand. As you begin walking to the yard, you don’t notice Megumi turning to look at his father, throwing a thumbs up. Toji smiles, whispering something to Jin before he leaves.

Step one, cleared.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

You start searching, not spotting anything white in the area.

“Okay, where do you remember playing with it?” you ask Megumi, who’s pretending to look as well.

Megumi thinks, holding his chin. You smile as you wait patiently for him. “Oh yes! At the garden room,” He loudly says.

“And what were you doing in the garden room? You know you’re not supposed to be there,” you warned him, only for Megumi to shrug, making you laugh.

“Stay here, okay?” you tell Megumi, who nods.

You make your way to the garden room on the other side of the backyard. The good thing about buying a farmhouse is that it has a huge backyard where one can grow vegetables and fruits. You and Toji took advantage of it, making grocery shopping more accessible. Furthermore, it also made Toji build a garden room as he noticed you enjoyed planting flowers as a hobby. Megumi watches you walk where his father is waiting for you, making him run back and let everyone know.

Step two, cleared.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

Arriving at the garden room, you spot Megumi’s stuffed animal sitting at the doorstep.

“There you are,” you smile, picking it up.

You dust the stuffed animal as you spot a bit of dirt on it. You start to head back but stop when you notice the window of the garden room is covered. You frown as you always have it uncovered for the flowers to get sunlight. You assume it must have been Megumi when he was inside the room and played with the remote. You walk back to the garden room, sliding the door open. You shut the door once entering, noticing pink petals on the floor, making your blood run cold.

Don’t tell me Megumi broke something.

You slowly look up, expecting to see a mess, but you don’t.

No.

What you see has you let out a shaky laugh, being too speechless. You slowly put Megumi’s stuffed animal down on the floor. The room is nicely decorated with multiple flowers that you’re sure aren’t from your garden. You spot multiple flower bouquets representing romance, family, and happiness down the end of the room, where you see your boyfriend waiting for you. You begin to tear up, slowly walking to him as you step on the pink petals that lead his way. Toji chuckles at seeing your expression, making his way toward you.

He feels you wrap your arms around his neck, “Y-You.” you cry out, not being able to finish, making Toji laugh.

“Why is my sunshine a crybaby?” Toji teases, wrapping his arms around your waist. You gently push him away, but Toji holds you tighter.

“I’m just teasing,” he says, wiping the remaining tears on your face.

You roll your eyes at him, making him grin, kissing your cheek. Toji feels you gently pushing him, thinking you’re upset, but realizes you are trying to look around the room. He watches how your mouth opens from amazement as you notice other decorations in the room, like the ceiling covered in flowers. Toji takes a moment to kneel on one knee as you are occupied with the decorations.

“Toji,” you say, smiling as you spot your favorite flowers at the center. “What’s happening?” you ask, picking a flower from the bouquet and smelling it.

“Could it be that you found out about the news-“you smile, turning to look over at Toji, dropping the flower from your hand.

Toji nervously smiles as you gasp, covering your mouth with your hands. “You know, I love you a lot, Y/N,” he says, watching you cry again. “You never gave up on me. Instead, you were so patient with me during the beginning of our relationship, which I’m thankful for.”

“But you did more than just that. You opened my heart and made me love again. You made me want to change for the sake of myself and Megumi,” Toji says, voice cracking at the end. “I realize that you and Megumi can’t be replaced either.”

You sob as you remember saying those exact words to him three years ago outside the building.

“I-I promised the day we rode the train to protect and love you and Megumi properly. However, I wanna make this promise for a lifetime until you get tired of my old ass,” Toji jokes, getting a smile from you.

“That’s why Y/N, please allow me to make you the happiest woman,” Toji smiles, taking out a small black box.

You begin to hiccup, already knowing that you’re looking ugly, as you can feel your mascara running down your face.

“Will you marry me, sunshine?” Toji asks, opening the box, which reveals a small ring.

Toji softly smiles at you as you struggle to respond to him. He sees you nod your head multiple times, hoping he understands, which Toji does. He stands up, gently putting the ring on your ring finger.

“I know, the ring is a bit too simple,” Toji says. “I’m sorry about that.”

You shake your head, “N-No… it’s perfect,” you sniffle, looking at the ring.

You’re perfect.

Toji stares at you as you admire the ring. He wipes your running mascaras with his finger, cleaning a bit of it off. You stare at him, making him stop as he makes eye contact with you. You close your eyes, leading Toji to close the distance between y’all and kiss you. He takes hold of the back of your neck, deepening the kiss while you rest your hands on his muscular chest. You break the kiss to catch your breath, Toji looking at you breathlessly.

“Sorry… I got carried away,” he breathes out.

“I liked it, though,” you say, looking over at him.

Toji pulls you towards him by the waist, kissing your neck as he tries to calm himself down.

You can’t. You can’t right now. You horny fucker.

You rub his back as Toji fights mentally with himself and his dick. Once he has cooled down, Toji removes himself. “You okay?” You ask, getting a thumbs up from the taller man.

“I’ll be all yours tonight, so just wait a bit,” you say.

“I know… but it’s hard,” Toji whines, making you roll your eyes at how dramatic he is.

Toji holds your hand, “I love you,” he suddenly says.

“I love you too,” you smile, interlocking fingers with him.

Toji then remembers everyone waiting outside, so he takes the remote from his back pocket and presses the cover button to uncover the window. You see everyone excitedly waving their hands. You spot a tent behind everyone that wasn’t there earlier.

“Come on, they are waiting for us,” Toji says, getting a nod from you.

As Toji opens the door, you take the time to go and pick up Megumi’s stuffed animal that you left at the entrance.

“Baby? Can you slide the other door?” Toji yells, pulling out the left door of the garden room.

“Of course,” You say, pulling the door handle and opening both doors.

Toji walks up to you, “Thank you,” he says, wrapping an arm around your waist.

The two of you get interrupted by the kids. “Did she say yes?” you hear Yuuji yell. “Well, did she?”

Toji looks over at you, who lifts their hand to show the ring, making everyone scream for joy.

The final step cleared.

✯ *⁎ ✰ ⁎* ✯

Megumi quickly runs toward the two of you, jumping on Toji, who quickly catches him.

“You tricked me,” you say, handing Megumi his supposed lost toy.

“I had no choice,” Megumi truthfully responds, making you laugh.

Megumi glances over at you, “C-Can I…” he starts but stops, unsure if he can say it. You and Toji noticed his hesitation, so you both encouraged him not to be afraid.

“Can I now call you mom?” Megumi asks, looking over at you.

You automatically take Megumi away from Toji, hugging the little boy. “You can call me whatever makes you comfortable, darling,” you smile, kissing both his cheeks.

“I love you, mom,” Megumi whispers in your ear, making you cry. “I love you more, sweetheart.”

Toji, who’s a few inches away from the two, smiles. He knows it must have been hard for his seven-year-old son as he never had a mother figure to depend on since his past wife passed away once giving birth to Megumi. However, that changed when you came into the picture. You gave Megumi that motherly love since the day you started to babysit for him. It makes Toji wonder if you were sent by her. To love and not judge either of them because you were the first person to accept him and Megumi like ordinary people. Unlike his old hookups or flings, who would stop once, they saw how they lived or that he had a kid.

You were different.

Like an angel that fell from heaven, always kind, sincere, but most of all, so bright.

And you still are.

Toji heads towards you, who’s bouncing Megumi in your arms. “Let’s go,” he says, extending his hand for you to take. You smile, automatically holding Toji’s hand. Megumi asks you to put him down, which you easily do. He holds your other free hand, making you and Toji smile.

“Alright, let’s go,” Toji says, as the three of you begin walking hand in hand while everyone is waiting at the tent.

You soon have everyone congratulating the two of you. You even get help cleaning your leftover makeup, as Nobara and Yuuji bring wet wipes.

“Come on, let’s get inside,” you hear Jin yell as he opens the tent.

You thank Yuuji and Nobara, who quickly run inside the tent. Toji looks over at you and smiles as he sees your bare face.

Cute.

Megumi drags you towards the tent, opening it for him to enter. You get a small glimpse of what’s inside, which has your mouth open. Toji sees how you still haven’t entered, making him pull you further inside the tent so you can see everything. You spot a huge table at the center with fancy plates, glass cups, and utensils. You spot a few people in uniform who are waiting.

Toji leans closer to you, “You like it?” he whispers over your ear.

You turn to look at him. “I do… but this must’ve cost a lot, Toji,” you say, still looking around.

“Jin and his wife helped me get a discount,” Toji says, kissing your head. “It was still a lot, but anything for you.”

Toji feels you cup his face, giving him an unexpected kiss. “I love you,” you tell him.

“I love you more,” Toji says, pecking your lips.

The two of them get interrupted by Megumi, “Mom, Dad, I’m hungry, so can we go sit already,” he says.

You and Toji laugh, letting go and agreeing with him. Everyone is already sitting, leaving just the three of you. Toji tells the waiters to start serving, which they do. You take a seat at the front, along with Toji and Megumi. As everyone is eating and talking. Toji takes the time to appreciate seeing everyone enjoying themselves. He looks over at you, who’s wiping Megumi’s face, that’s covered with sauce. He smiles, feeling in a state of happiness. He suddenly stands up, ringing his cup, which gets everyone’s attention.

“Umm… can I have everyone’s attention?” He awkwardly asks, making you giggle.

“I just wanted to thank you all for joining and helping me with this special moment. I’m really happy right now… so thank you,” Toji grins, lifting his cup.

Everyone follows, yelling ‘cheers.’

The waitress brings out some champagne to celebrate, pouring some for the adults. Once they get to you and Toji, you decline right away.

“Oh no, I can’t drink,” you tell them. “Can I just get the same juice the kids are being served?” you ask the waiter, who elaborates.

Toji sips his champagne, lifting his eyebrow as he knows you’re old enough to drink. Once the waiter comes with your juice, you take a sip, feeling Toji’s eyes on you. You try to ignore his stare, but Toji moves his chair closer to you, not allowing you to ignore him. “So, you can’t drink?” Toji asks, making you sigh.

“Yes, I can’t drink,” you say, looking over at the taller man.

“Why? You never had a problem drinking a bit of alcohol,” Toji argues, making you look away from him.

Toji waits for you to respond, but he notices how you start to look a bit nervous. This makes him think that maybe it’s something serious, so he patiently waits for you, taking your hand into his. You play with his fingers, debating if this is the right thing to tell him, but you then think double the surprise isn’t bad.

So, you go for it.

Toji sees you gesture to him to scoot closer, which he does, as he leans more. He feels your lips on his ear, and soon he hears you whisper something that makes his ears ring. You move away, looking at Toji, who’s already looking at you with wide eyes.

“A-Are you for real?” he asks. You nod your head, eyes getting teary.

Toji tightly hugs you, knocking your drink over at the table. Everyone quickly stares at the two of you, wondering what’s happening. Toji starts to kiss you all over your face, making you laugh.

“How long?” he asks, wiping your tears. “F-Four weeks,” you sniffle.

You and Toji look at each other, and you feel him hold both of your hands. “Thank you,” he whispers, kissing both your knuckles.

“Thank you for this amazing news,” Toji says, eyes starting to get watery. “For giving me the best surprise.”

You nod as you let your tears fall, hugging him. “I love you, Y/N,” Toji breathes out.

“I-I love you too,” you stutter.

The guests are confused when the two of you are hugging and crying. One of the waiters is cleaning the mess you guys made, which you still haven’t noticed. Megumi looks over at his parents, making him leave his seat and head towards y’all.

“Why are you crying, Mom?” he asks, seeing how red your nose is.

You and Toji let go, reaching for Megumi, who automatically walks over to you, sitting on your lap.

“Your mama just told me some big news, dumpling,” Toji says.

“Good news or bad news?” Megumi asks, looking over at his father. “Good news,” his father responds.

“So, what is it?” he asks, looking at both his parents.

Toji looks over at you, nodding his head. “How would you feel if I told you that you’re going to be a big brother?” you carefully ask, scared to see how Megumi would react.

“I’ll be happy,” Megumi responds. “Am I going to be a big brother?”

You nod your head, resulting in you and Toji receiving a big hug from Megumi.

“I’m going to be a big brother!” Megumi suddenly yells at the table, surprising everyone, even you and Toji.

Toji and you look at each other, shrugging your shoulders as you both can’t do anything now that the news it’s out.

“It’s true,” Toji says, standing up. The guests starts to cheer in their seats.

As everyone heads towards y’all and congratulates you guys. Toji steps away for a bit, feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything. He never thought it was possible to feel such happiness again. Toji looks back towards you, seeing you explain to Yuuji where the baby is as the small boy is confused. The father heads outside the tent, letting out a shaky breath. He closes his eyes, allowing a single tear to fall before aggressively wiping it off with his hand. Toji looks up at the sky and wonders if he deserves all of this.

If he deserves this second chance.

“Dad…” he hears Megumi’s voice, making him turn his head towards his son.

“What are you doing here?”

Toji walks up to his son, lifting him up and putting him on his shoulders. “Just thinking,” he tells his son, who hums.

“About mom?” Megumi asks, hands playing with his father’s hair.

“Yeah…” Toji responds.

Megumi also looks up at the sky, “It’s okay to be happy,” he tells his father, surprising him.

Toji slowly puts Megumi down, looking at his son, who’s giving him a small smile. “Don’t be sad that you’re happy,” his son tells him.

Toji kneels down to hear his son clearly, “It’s okay,” Megumi says. “We all deserve to feel happiness in our life.”

Toji can’t help but let a few more tears fall. He forgets that his son is very wise for such a young age. Megumi hugs his father, rubbing his back this time. “It’s not cool to be a crybaby,” he tells his father, making him chuckle.

This makes Toji recall the times he has teased you for always being so emotional during every movie night y’all would have. Now his son is making fun of him, karma, indeed.

“You’re right,” Toji says as he looks over at Megumi, who’s cleaning his face with a tissue he took from his pocket. “Thanks, dumpling.”

Toji picks him again, spinning the little boy. This makes Megumi break into laughter, telling his father to stop. “Megumi…” Toji calls his son, making the little boy look over at his father.

“Are you happy?” he asks.

Megumi nods, “Very.”

Toji smiles, kissing his son’s cheek. “I’m also happy,” he says, laughing as he sees Megumi wipe his cheek from the kiss he received.

“Will we be happy forever?” Megumi suddenly asks.

“Of course,” Toji responds.

“N-No one will come and hurt us again, right?” His son asks, looking at his father in concern.

Toji knows that Megumi has been a bit traumatized by the apartment attack. His son kept having nightmares the first weeks you moved here. It took time for him to feel safe and secure, but Toji knows it’s hard to forget.

“Mom won’t get hurt, right?” Megumi asks, tightly holding onto his father’s sleeve. “No, dumpling,” Toji says, holding Megumi’s head and letting it rest on his shoulder.

“No one will hurt you or your mother ever again.”

Megumi wrapped his tiny arms around his father’s neck, and his face was hidden on his shoulder. “You’re safe,” Toji whispers, making his son lift his head up.

“Mom?” Megumi asks, looking at his father. “All of us, dumpling,” Toji assures his son.

“Will we be a happy family?” Megumi asks. “The happiest family,” Toji smiles.

Megumi rests his head on his father’s shoulder, having Toji rub his back.

“There you guys are,” they hear your voice.

“Everyone keeps asking where y’all went,” you say, pushing open the tent.

“Fresh air,” the two boys say, making you giggle.

You walk up to them, brushing Megumi’s bangs. “Everything okay?” you ask, seeing how Megumi clings to Toji.

“Yeah, we’re okay,” Toji assures you. “You sure?” you ask again, looking at Megumi, who nods.

Megumi reaches for you, accepting the little boy into your arms. “Are you happy, mom?” he suddenly asks you.

“Of course I am,” you respond. “I’m happy to be able to receive both your and your father’s love.”

“The two of you have given me many amazing memories these three years. And I hope we have more memories now that we will become a family,” you smile at Megumi, who kisses your cheek.

You feel an arm around your waist, making you look over, only to receive a kiss on your other cheek. “I love y’all too,” you giggle, making both boys smile.

“Come on, everyone is waiting,” you say, starting to walk inside the tent with Megumi in your arms.

Toji stays behind for a second, looking up at the sky, and smiles.

I’m happy.

“Toji?” he hears you call for him. “I’m coming, sunshine!” He yells, taking a final look at the sky before heading inside.

Toji understood that it was okay to feel and experience such warm emotions. That there wasn’t anything wrong with getting a second chance if you allowed it and did it right.

And he did.

Toji gave you many more memories to remember throughout the years. He also never broke his promise, as he always protected and loved the two of you. And he’s continuing to keep it as you will now be four.
