The Eight Sabbats and The Wheel of the Year: My Digital Grimoire Series

*these are my notes, please do not repost as your own!*

i love how the moon illuminates the world at night with such a soft white light. when it’s strong enough, it’s almost enough to see by, but it always feels so soft and gentle. When it’s very cold outside, i feel welcome in the cold, instead of feeling like the cold is trying to kill me. It’s like the world is asleep, and it’s trying to cradle me too.

Modern witch tip:

Instead of “and so it is” or “so mote it be” feel free to say “and that’s how it be” and if ur feelin a lil spicy go ahead an add on “in this bitch of a life”

Bless

Its fine to be upset about Sephora. But have this same energy when it comes to white witches appropriating cultures.

Yall say support your local etsy witches, but this doesn’t change the fact that alot of these local witches are white and appropriating cultures.

You cant be pissed at sephora, but refuse to call out white, racist etsy shops.

Like lets start calling out racist etsy shops. And by racist i mean those that sell items from closed practices, call themselves ‘g*psy’, sell native American and African traditional things, etc.

Do you ever just suddenly feel the crushing weight of the unmourned dead?

They’re everywhere. They surround us. They died unknown and unloved and unmourned and they’re angry and sad and sometimes I feel this overwhelming drive to set aside time to mourn them where nobody else did, to put some drop in the bucket toward ensuring that they don’t go completely forgotten.

It’s like that Night Vale tweet about the cause of random sadness being that you’re randomly assigned the duty of grieving for someone who died alone.

I feel that in my bones.

Some people always get super salty when they come asking for help with a “ghost haunting” and the first thing i ask them is “have you checked your living space for carbon monoxide”.

Like maybe you thought coming to a witch you’d get some neat spell or some shit, but a big part of being a (good) witch is also looking at what is in front of you and ruling out some basic things first, and a lot of the things people describe to me when it comes to ghost hauntings also sound a helluva lot like carbon monoxide poisoning. So like sorry for giving a shit over whether or not you’re actually about to die or not I guess *shrug emoji*

Like I know we joke about my house being haunted (and maybe it is) but when the lights flicker in my house I don’t do a cleansing spell, I call an electrician. You gotta do the physical world things first before you jump to the metaphysical. That’s just how it is.

Lavender Lemonade

Nothing beats the summer heat like a tall glass of ice cold Lavender Lemonade! Not only will you love the refreshingly delicious taste it has to offer, but you may find yourself more relaxed since the mere scent of lavender has been shown to reduce anxiety. In addition, the odor from essential oils that are released from lavender blossoms may provide migraine and insomnia relief.

*************************************************

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Dried Lavender Flowers
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 1 cup Honey
  • 1 tray Ice Cubes
  • 1 cup Lemon Juice
  • 5+ cups Filtered Water

Instructions

  1. Put the dried lavender flowers into a bowl and pour 2 cups of boiling water over it.
  2. Add the honey and then allow it to steep for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Strain out the lavender flowers.
  4. Add ice cubes to a 2-quart pitcher.
  5. Pour the honey and lavender mixture into the pitcher.
  6. Add the lemon juice and top it off with cold filtered water.
  7. Stir and enjoy!

Weird Little Habits That Are Actually Magick

Knocking on wood Blowing on dandelion seeds Using a fallen eyelash to make a wish Kissing under mistletoe Throwing spilled salt over your left shoulder Don’t put shoes on the table/bed Don’t open an umbrella indoors Finding four leaf clovers for luck Carving jack-o-lanterns Wearing masks/costumes on Halloween Using flower petals to play ‘Love-me, Love-me-not’ Wishing on a falling star

That’s all I can think of at the moment, add more!

also:

  • putting the shoe on your right foot first to avoid bad luck
  • don’t walk under ladders
  • make sure birds don’t get inside- if they do, they’re an omen of death

i think one of the most common dangers I run into in the edible and medicinal plant scene is the problem of “can you eat it” vs. “should you eat it”

a lot of websites and books these days will be like “ten wild plants you can use to make tea” without then listing the actual use for those teas because all they care about is the novelty of making your own tea from things you picked in the woods.

They tell you stuff like “A wonderfully cleansing medicine, it supports the liver, stimulates the flow of urine and the removal of waste by the kidneys.”

And people are so into the idea of cleansing their bodies of supposed toxins, that sounds great!

But what I know is that what they really mean is, this plant is a diuretic, meaning if you use it for tea, you’re going to peeing All. Day. Long. Every. Ten. Minutes.

Which isn’t fun if you’re on a hike or about to get back in your car and drive an hour home.

Some popular plants recommended for teas are used as contraceptives and morning after treatments. So here you are, trying to get pregnant, drinking your natural to rid your kidneys of impurities, being healthy as can be, and all along you’re taking birth control!

And if you’re already taking birth control and trying to not get pregnant, the plant can mess you up too.

There are plants that mess with antidepressants, and with blood pressure medicine, that make you sick to your stomach, that messes with your blood, and on and on.

And all of these sources will just list them as something you can eat, because hey, you won’t die if if you do!

Which is true, you’ll live, but at what cost!!!

Please remember herbal remedies and edible plants have always been consumed and applied with a PURPOSE, and unless you know what that purpose is, don’t consume them just because you can. It’s a bad idea.
