one-sided pining enemies to lovers prompts
rant incoming : i want to clarify that this is tricky territory. i don’t want to write this prompt list and enthuse peoples ideas where the enemy did something legitimately wrong or literally illegal (bully/bullied to lovers is ridiculous and not welcome here), but i do think oftentimes it could be a misunderstanding or just that they never really got along. also… be careful, because no reader is going to root for a character who can’t take no for an answer. if your character says no, let it be no. it’s not enemies to lovers if one is literally a weirdo who can’t leave the other alone when they want to be left alone……..anywho, feel free to use!
- first let’s establish this: you don’t hate someone for no reason. why does the character hate the other? what did they do, or what do they think the other did? how do they absolve the issue during the story?
- them trying to reach out and touch their hand but the other moves it before they can
- “open up to me. i want to be with you.”
- character who hates the other trying so hard to keep hating them but they’re making it so hard
- ^ “you looked beautiful today.” and a begrudging “thank you. i thought you did, too.”
- ^^ they’re in a group of friends and one character isn’t able to speak so the other is like “wait she wants to say something” and they’re like DAMMIT WHY ARE U SO SWEET😭😭
- “do you want to—” “no.” “okay.”
- the moment where the misunderstanding is cleared… like “you can’t pretend you don’t remember doing XYZ!!!” “BUT I DONT?????”
- the other character making the effort to make them as comfortable as possible no matter the situation
- ^ “if you want me gone, i’m gone. just say the word, okay? but i just want to be here for you.”
- *ahem*… enemies to one sided enemy to lovers
- “why do you hate me so much?” “you know why.”
- or “why do you hate me so much?” “i don’t.”
- OR OR MY FAV “why do you hate me so much?” “why don’t you hate me anymore?” GET IT BC THEY USED TO??? yeah?? no??… 😞
