TRUE TYPES POST #6: JEAN
DISC: Primary C profile, result: C (D) (I), slot 16
SOJT type: Ti-n (D<A auxiliary serves as dominant)
*Note * The first 2 introverts we looked at (Jaime, and now Jean) had this pattern where the auxiliary serves as the dominant. Briggs and Myers thought this was the norm for introverts, however it's not. I have a study that refutes this, and when I blog that study, I will link it here
Briggs Myers type most resonant: INTP
What were you like in high school?
I was shy and quiet. I mainly participated in school activities where I could lurk in the background and not stand out, like band and choir. However, my brothers, my then boyfriend, and some other friends got me interested in doing the same things they did. So yeah, I did try my hand at sports and acting in plays and musicals. I actually did fairly well, and surprised myself
What is your greatest fear? What do you do to address it?
I really don't know how to answer this. I don't think I have a fear anymore. Maybe I'm wrong?
Was there a time in your life where you felt you hit rock bottom? What was the situation behind it?
I'd say it was when I got raped as a 13 year old. I had trauma from that , which changed my life forever. In addition, I got pregnant from it, and became a mom. Fortunately, my parents were sympathetic, and helped me raise my son
Where would you put yourself on the social spectrum, and why?
Definitely an introvert. Some people might argue an ambivert, because I get loud and social when I'm with my close friends, but that's not the norm. I'm usually quiet, shy, and a loner
What are some things that really bother you?
I'd say one of the biggest things is crowds. I'm always trying to escape them. I also don't like surprises, especially when they don't follow logic
What, would you say, are your biggest strengths?
I am very efficient, and get things done, if I don't spend too much time being distracted. I'm also good at taking ideas in, like in a brainstorming session, and filtering them, figuring out what the best options are. Am I explaining this ok?
What, would you say, are your biggest weaknesses?
I would say coming across as cold and not caring, and sharing my thoughts and feelings with others. I also have a big problem with jumping to conclusions about things, and unfortunately, more often than not, I've been wrong. I also have a tendency to get distracted
When you switch your attitude between introverted and extroverted, or vise versa, what are you like?
When I act like an extrovert, I'm loud and social. In my younger years, I would threaten to beat people up, and cuss a lot. I don't do those things now that I'm older, though
What was the hardest thing you ever had to do? Why was it so hard?
The hardest thing I ever had to do was act in plays and musicals. It really challenged me, and made me go totally against the nature of my personality. But it was worth it in the end, because I surprised myself in a good way. I found out I do have some talent in that area, and I can actually act fairly well.
What are you like when you're sad?
When I'm sad? I don't know if I've ever been sad. What is sadness ?
How masculine/feminine do you feel in relation to others of your gender?
I'm masculine. I'm quite yang. I was considered a tomboy growing up. Now, I'm the one who fixes everything in the house, and my husband thinks it's weird, like our gender roles are switched
Here's 4 focuses you can have in life: tasks, people, objects and ideas. Which one would be your primary focus and why? Which one would be your secondary focus and why?
I would definitely say my biggest focus is ideas. I love to work with them, and systematically pare them down. I would say my second is likely tasks
What do you do to have fun?
I just like to sit around, and just hang out and relax, most often alone
What was the nicest thing you ever did for someone, and why did you do it?
The nicest thing I ever did for someone? I don't really have an answer for this one either. I think I'm such a loner, and my interactions with people are not quite as common as they are for others, that it's really hard for me to know if I'm being nice to someone or not. It's also hard to tell how I'm coming across to others
Thanks, Jean, for sharing with us
By the way, when I did these typings last summer, I was very surprised that Jean turned out to be an INTP. She certainly did not fit the type descriptions for INTP that you see online. She had more artisan-type interests, and as a result, I had her mistyped in my head as ISTP, or possibly INTJ. But her DISC assessment and MBTI analysis put her firmly in the INTP camp. So I guess that goes to show what a mess the Briggs Myers type descriptions are
