There's a lot of finger pointing when we say we're excited for Elain to leave the Night Court.
- Yes her sisters are there, though keep in mind neither of her sisters regularly seeks her out to spend time with her unless they feel she's in need of being cared for or it's a holiday. They aren't "friends" in the way Nesta, Gwyn & Emerie or Feyre & Mor are . Feyre admits as much in her POV chapter.
- Yes the twins are there (they can winnow though, right? Doesn't that make it extremely convenient for them to visit Elain wherever she ends up?)
The argument is, why would we want her to leave her friends and family?
I think the more important argument is, why would you want Az in a relationship where the very first companions that he ever had, the shadows that kept him company during his childhood torture, don't often coexist with the female in his life?
- "Though the shadows kept him company, as that always had, as they always would"
- "His shadows skittered back at the sound. They’d always been prone to vanish when she was around.
What makes more sense? Elain leaving the Night Court (where there are hints of her not belonging anyway) and easily having friends and family visit because most of them can winnow as well as winnow others with them?
Or having Elain stay, ending up with Azriel, and having his friends (because that's pretty much what a companion is) regularly disappear in her presence?
(Disclaimer: I do not think they disappear around Elain because they think she's shady or they don't like her. I think the brightness and light of her (as she's described) is simply not compatible with the shadows considering they hide from the Sun.
